He said he changed the pulley by unbolting the alternator and turning it to give enough access to get the tool in to remove the pulley. New pulley is Valeo which was about £50 and genuine Volvo aux belt costing about £45. Charged me 1 hour labour for the job so very happy with that. Thanks Ross

It’s the pulley on the end of the alternator. You can’t tell if they are seized while the belt is on unless you are getting squeaking/rumbling noises from the aux belt as I was. If you have done around the 100k mark and have no evidence of it being changed it’s probably worth getting it done as they do all seem to start playing up around this mileage.
