  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way

I usually give new batteries a 24 hour charge to make sure they are saturated.

Undo the negative terminal first - that way if you catch the your spanner on the bodywork when undoing the live terminal you wont cause a short. And hence do up the negative terminal on the new battery last.

Volvo's advice is to change the battery whilst the key is at pos II (ignition). This is so that when the airbag system is re-energised, you're not sat behind one.... but it's just advice, unintentional airbag deployments are not heard of.

New Bosch battery arrived today and installation was very straightforward.

You are supposed to reset the Low Voltage Counter using VIDA when a new battery is installed.

The Low Voltage Counter is used to diagnose battery issues easily, as it indicates how many times the battery voltage has dropped to low enough levels that the car starts to shut down non-vital electrical equipment.

These days, batteries can be tested easily using dedicated battery testers, and thus the counter is less critical.
