I went for the Witter detachable as it's a bit cheaper. Not totally invisible but only the socket for the towball visible, and it works just fine. I'm a caravanner of over 25 years and many thousands of towing miles, and the XC90 is one of the best towcars I've ever had.

As a new caravanner you're not likely to be towing anything too substantial at first, so the towball height probably won't be too critical anyway. An XC90 hardly notices a caravan on the back. Go for it. I'd never go back to a tent!

Thx Asahartz, I think I must be in the minority in that I actually like the look of the swan-neck towbar on the back of my R-Design, plus wd protect the bumper in the event of someone nudging the car when parking behind it and I havent caught my shins on it yet. The design of the under bumper trim on this model is such that it does have to be cut to allow fitment of the Volvo swan-neck but the towbar fits nicely into this trim and imho just suits the back a treat. Sorry to go on about towball height but could you tell me what the height is floor to centre of ball on yrs and does caravan sit level pls?
