There is not a belt from Volvo for a non-ac Volvo engine type, they only non a/c version that is listed is for GDI engine version, so a different setup on that anyway.

I have a factory non AC s40 2.0 n/a, it's a Ph1 though. I've got a spare auxiliary belt somewhere with the Volvo part number for the shorter belt.

Hi loely.
No your not wrong, But in my case my pulley wheel has collapsed and I need a replacement and that puts me in the dilemma of "If I have got this far then I might as well fix all and keep things original" just the way my mind works can be a problem in it's self at times.

Hi fierbolt.
Just seen your mesage.Thank's for the offer but I am more concerned now that their would not be enough tension on the alienator as had bean pointed out earlier in the thread, the alienator on mine is directly below the power assisted pump and the air con directly below that so without the air con the bolt would only make contact with about a quarter of the alienator pulley.

WOODY2 I thought "bearings in the air con pump have given up" it was inside the pump ,not the pulley so yes if you have to repair you can fix it the right way.And you never know, the warming up of the earth may give you good use for the AC .LOL
Still watch out for a belt rupture and getting some pieces under the timing belt. You would not be the first.
Enjoy
loely

There used to be a volvo idler pulley you could fit to the white blocks in place of the AC compressor.

The alternator turns anti clockwise in these if its spun the other way the alt pulley clutch just slips.

I need to sort this out myself as I am doing a conversion on something and I'd like to retain the ps pump and alt in their current positions as it makes life easier.

Also on my T4 all that remains of the AC system is 1 pipe and the evaporator in the dash (condenser, drier and pipes are away) so I have a test mule. I suppose you could argue front mount since the condenser is away so the only things there now are the intercooler and radiator.

The ac pulley bearings can be replaced and its not that difficult a job but in the uk getting the bearings is a pain.

Anyway main issue is sufficient belt wrap to drive the pulley without slipping. The alternator will charge if spun backwards but the issue is the internal fan is now spinning the other way and the pulley would need swapped for a solid one or a clutched one that works the opposite way

If you rotate the alternator in the opposite direction to its design, you stand a very good chance of the pulley undoing itself in normal use.

Trying to save money or being too clever in the belt area isn't really advisable so unless there is an official workaround, you're better to keep everything as it should be.

Maybe you should have read what I wrote.

Also a lot of alternators are keyed so they can't undo.

Also as standard its trying to 'undo itself' that's part of the reason it has a clutched pulley.

A clutch pulley for an anti clockwise rotating alternator has a reverse thread so how are you going to fit a clockwise pulley which will have a right handed thread?

Have you actually done what you're suggesting or are you just guessing?

Think I'm going to try & get this kit from FRF, I have a Ph2 engine I want to fit & this will save me changing it to the Ph1 belt setup.
