Hi Mike,
I've got the heater apart and there is no sign of the end of the tube at all. I think some previous owner has had it apart and must have removed the end then. I guess they cut the sensor tube to save having to remove the valve at the same time as the heater housing. Wrapping the tube around the pipe will max out the thermostatic adjustment leaving you with controlling the temperature purely by the control lever. I don't actually think the thermostatic control is that effective anyway, so I doubt it makes much difference practically. All the best, Andrew |

Well I guess it can't be if I've been doing it wrong all this time and not even noticed. I think its more important to make sure the cable from the heater control lever actually moves the thermostat lever over its full range of motion - most dont.

Chances are if the tube was cut off it may have droped out the bottom of the heater.
