I have a 2010 RD and if I turn the stereo up too load i can hear a rattle on the roof liner just above the passenger door?

So my answer is the opposite - turn down the stereo

I will hopefully have it investigated when the 3 month initial check up is due

Generally when advised to 'turn up the radio', you are being advised by someone who has not spent thousands of pounds on a brand new vehicle, only to be disapointed by build quality that British leyland would have been proud of. In fact I have owned many new Rovers, both SD1, 800 series and the last of the line 75's that were all better built than my month old V70.

I do not know what has really gone wrong with the brand other than cars being engineered and built to the lowest possible price to help prop up an ailing parent company (Ford).

If the brand is sold to the Chinese, one can only assume that matters will only deteriorate and Volvo will eventually go the way of Rover.... nothing more than another European car of a certain class that belonged to a bygone era.

The thing is I don't think all these problems are unique to Volvo. A quick talk to work colleagues and a browse through various forums will see that these sort of problems we have are in every manufacture of new cars. Ford, Audi, Skoda any one you like, new cars seem to be built to a price which relatively speaking is thousands cheaper than it would have been 20 years ago and with added safety and electronic equipment. Some of these savings can be made through manufacturing efficiencies and so on but I belive quality is taking a step back over the last 5 years or so.

On that I would agrea fully

Most modern cars are now cheap n cheerfull

Although not realy cheap as such Volvo sell on the premium quality side

Mercedes we all know are poor compared to earlier cars but then the prices have dropped in fact most reps now have them if they dont fancy a BMW

Volvo have always been that cut above - in sales and service it was a close to prestige for the working man as you could get shame

FYI a fully loaded 1989 Volvo 760 GLE priced new now (according to the retail price index) would set you back £58,000

I ran the number a couple of years back!!

Thats an unfair projection though

If you look at the cost of a family TV or say washing machine and project these to todays costs

The only thing that has risen in line with that probably is petrol lol

Use the same calculations on the ordinary mans salary, you will get the drift

Most modern days cars are around 2 years averadge salary

Back in 1989 id say it was around 3 years if not lower, then look at inflation etc and put it into perspective with other dy to day products and you will find todays cars are not that much more expensive than they were in 1990

I have had my 2003 V70 D5 since new and now done 136k miles , had lots of squeeks for first year , went to Rybrook quite a few times under warranty , some noises they got rid of others I eventually found where they were coming from myself . The joints in the rear end between plastic trim was eventually found to be the cause of most of it , over the luggage area side windows was worst but anywhere where there are overlaps or joins , dont use WD40 as it dries up or runs off quickly , white grease/vaseline worked on mine and now never get those annoying squeeks ( makes a few other noises occasionally but dosnt squeek ) but you need to undo the trim and lift the plastic up to get at the whole joint surface which you may be reluctant to do on a new car , my main concern now is will the engine last to 200k miles . Its hard to believe six years on and Volvo still dont deal with these problems , they just dont listen to customers because at the time it happened to me I made a big deal out of it as I was spending 30 hours a week in the car , I will not forgive Volvo for having to sort the problem out myself .

Dazzle you would be surprised.

Forget white goods - what we should do is compare its price alongside the Mars Bar. The Mars bar test is a good indicator of whether something elses price has risen above or below a simple benchmark.
