Check under the drivers knee kick-panel for the relays...

You will need to look at relay 210 211 (double)... it can be seen below with the wire (glass sensor) going into it...You may not have the wire, or the relay...What colour is it?...
Then look at the relay behind 205 206, what colour is that...

I have checked the info i have and the Orange relay, certainly in the Phase 2 models was compatable with a fob...
What concerns me is that the dash light does not stay on, or flash after the five turn on's....
I would double check you are doing this correctly and give Simon at frf a call with the relay part number (or PM me the number and i will ask for you) and he will be able to give you a catagoric response
I suspect that your relay is not compatitive and the previous owner took a punt with the fob...
You can test your alarm by locking the deadlocking the car and attempt to start the car (obvioulsy drivers window must be open)..the starter should fail to turn and the siren sound...

What type of fob have you, single button, double button side by side or above each other....
The early ones are generally 2, side by side

Cheers

Key Fob:

The fob is black larger rectangle button at the top the word Volvo printed directly under then and 10mm lower down is a second smaller/narrower button

Orange relay:

Number at top = 91- 28 -903 under is the wording "Volvo alarm anti theft relay"

Under that is the number 89 - 87 - 57 - 000 and under that is printed pa6/GF30

White relay:

>113 - 62 - 895<

When trying to reprogram im doing as follows:

Get in close door, turn ign on-off five times leaving it on on the 5th = nothing happens

When i lock the car i shut door turn key anti clockwise then a touch more so as the dead lock , the little red dash led then lights for about 2sec`s then flashes at about a sec apart.

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this Jod , i owe you one
