It's not me doing this work, but I asked the garage who are doing it about anti seize and they said they don't use it as it 'bakes on and just makes it worse'.

They're Volvo specialists and have been doing it for years, so I have to defer to their experience. That's what I'm paying them for I guess. Or else go to somebody else who'll do it the way I think it should be done.

Thanks folks.

TBH there talking crap, coating fastners in high heat areas with anti sieze compound is good engineering practice ,as stated bostik anti sieze is superb, we use it in areas that are subjected to around 900c and it works

ahh they have obviously had nearly as much experience as me with volvo turbos since they came out in 1982 , you dont NEED anything, the studs and nuts will be fine ... Volvo knew how to engineer cars back then ...

Thanks. I didn't just mean the turbo nuts, but any exhaust fixings. Manifold to head, turbo to manifold, exhaust flange to turbo.

But yes, the garage I think has even more experience than that. Certainly the two partners I suspect would have been working on Volvos since the 70s (better be careful what I say!!) and it's definitely not a '2-bit' operation. When I was there with my wife (her first visit) she was impressed. She said she was expecting something a bit back streety, where as it's actually a very clean, large airy workshop, with plent of ramps/lifting posts, a rolling road (they're a MOT station too). And though I've only been going a couple of years, I see the same mechanics. There must be half a dozen staff at least, including the owners.

And practically all you see in there are Volvo 200s, 700s, 900s. Lots of 'em. Obviously they do the FWDs now, they'd have to, but I think that they have a lot of experience with RWD Volvos. If they don't want to use anti seize on the exhaust components then I'll have to let them, use a different garage or DIM.

Cheers.
