Reading all the transmission replacements I was going to ask if it was a T6 and then I saw that your signature says that's what you have.
That's why I'd recomend getting the D5. It may be a bit more expensive initially but that cost will be more than compensated for by having transmission that dosn't need regular replacement.

126,000 miles MY 2003
Only non maintenance items have been 1 rear wheel bearing at 66,000 1 rear shock absorber 96,000, lower front hub joints 125,000. AWD has never been a problem Possible gearbox replacement coming up....apart from this reckon that's a good record HTH |

Never seen that in a Volvo maintenance schedule. [ Nor any other manufacturer ]
Had the shocks on my MX5 tested at 156k miles and still excellent according to the tester and readout. Would have cost a fortune if replaced every time I replaced the tyres!!! Sorry can't agree they are a maintenance item |

surely shocks aren't a maintenance item! Conti's only last 10k miles...thats a lot of shock absorbers

Brake pads changes are not on service sheet, or coolant changes, or tyre changes etc. etc.

I'll agree on changing shocks more frequently. I change mine when at about 60k as they had degraded. In fact, my rear nivomats had almost seized and were giving no damping (changed back to standard shocks as much cheaper!). The difference in ride quality was amazing, and by having proper damping again protects other driveline and steering components.
I had mine at an independent yesterday for a check over and he commented on how well it drove - I changed all the drop links at a similar time and at 83k now he said drove much better than most 50k ones they see! He said that there was not much wear on the bushings on the wishbones and that by properly damping energies it will not jar and affect rubber components as much. I rist realised this when I got an older sports car - it had 77k on it and was unstable at high speeds. After dropping new shocks all round it was night and day difference and realised that they should be considered as service items - and they are not that difficult to change yourself either. The idea that they are still fine at 100K+ beggars belief in my experiences. You either do proactive maintenance on a car, or wait until something breaks and find that via a cascade there is a lot more there under the surface that also needs fixing! |
