I am told that the ultrasonic oil level sensor in the sump area takes approximately 20 miles of driving to "learn" and register the oil level on dash display. The sensor could of course be faulty.

I've had the low oil message before just after a dealer service.

Dealer advised don't add any, the electronic oil level wasn't reset at service our bad.

Took it back, quick bacon sarnie & coffee, Mechanic stuck some fuel in for the inconvenience & all well in the world again.

Methinks the garage that did the oil change doesn't know what they're doing. In which case has the correct specification of oil been used.

Update. I did stick .5L in as it said it was empty. But time I got home it said it was empty again. It's only a short 15min journey however. There is not oil leakage that I can see

The oil sensor is either faulty or the garage didn’t reset it. So the car doesn’t know the level & neither do you.

Are the garage using the right oil out of curiosity?

You need to drain the oil fully, add 5.7L to the engine & reset the electronic oil sensor.

Which engine type is this? You don't seem to have any physical dipstick whatsoever, which indicates a VEA engine. In which case the oil capacity is only 5.2L.

But none of this is really your problem, seeing as how you've just had a lot of work done. Simply take it back and complain!

Yes, I saw. D3 is a powerband that exists for VEA engines and also the older 5-cylinder types.

It would be helpful if the OP said which year his car was. Then we could tell him the required oil quantity...
