so next question is how do you manually adjust the pump? i had a look & the bolts look on the belt side quite hidden.... or am i missing something simple?

you do not touch the pump, there are two tensioners on the belt, the bottom one is used for the adjustment. slacken of the nut but not too lose so that you can move the pulley backwards and forwards with the allen key in the slot, with the engine running and up to the test specs adjust the bottom pulley backwards or forwards and watch the pump timing degrees move when you have it to the correct setting switch off and then tighten the pulley nut. if it will not set within the parimeters then the belt has to be changed it has stretched too much.hope that helps.

yes thats correct, if its a tooth out then you will have a problem in getting it near , i would at least have a go and see what you can get it to, i had a member a couple of years ago who had the same issue his was a tooth out and we could not get it set up correctly untill it was timed properly.you may be lucky its worth a shout .

nope, it was the right tooth! a tooth either way seems to be about 25 degrees...

the best i could get it was around 4 degrees so looks like it needs a new belt

many thanks for your help

well i bought a new belt & the best i could get it was still 4 degrees!

after much messing about with teeth etc i inspected the tensioner which appeared to be bent at the locating lug.... so i straightened it up a little & have eventually got the timing somewhere close to spot on although it seems to me the belt is very tight.... i guess if it snaps i will know

a quick road test & bloody hell its like a different car! turbo whistle & wheelspin.....

Hi outnumbered sorry to hijack and butt in on the thread.
I am wondering if i can pick your brains on the dynamic timing on a phase 2 d52525t engine. i have just read the thread D5252T EFI 718 Ignition Timing control. This thread explains adjusting the lower pulley with the engine running to adjust the timing. Is this the procedure on the phase 2 engine?
Sorry but I dont seem to be able to find the info on the site

Regards

Andy

Andy,

The D5252T in the phase 2 car is the SAME as the engine in the V70 2.5 TDi (Phase 1 Shape) Like Pnuts car in this thread ...They Used the D5252T engine right thru until the introduction of the D5 (D5244T) in 2002

I have an S80 (Phase 2) with this engine
