Hi
See if the council will fit one of these as a compromise or ask them again if they have a policy for this situation.

Drainage gulley

No detriment to the pavement and the cable will lay in the slot.

I think that is a little extreme...

I can't see how one cable with a small rubber protector (e.g. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01DWCM082/) is going to cause the inconvenience you are concerned with. I am trying to do what I can to minimise any problems and the reality is that I would not be charging all the time as most of the driving is inner city

Just because I don't have a house with off-street parking doesn't mean I should be disadvantaged with my car choice.

I do take your point that it isn't just 'my' pavement - be we can all share

Perhaps my usage of the word 'ramp' is making it sound bigger than it should be. I would hope I don't have any problems as there is no viable alternative.... short of never charging the car and not making a positive environmental impact

Thanks for the suggestion. I had considered this and will suggest this if they turn down the request for a dedicated charge point. I am likely to get the front garden done in the next 6 months or so, so could offer to do this work myself.

Unfortunately it does if it impacts on others going about their daily business.
If you are allowed to do it then so should everyone and the pavement would be turned into some kind of rumble strip.
Like you say, the pavement isn't yours and I'm sure you'd be equally unhappy if someone else used your land or property if there's didn't have adequate facilities.

The flush fit solutions sound good but I feel anything above the normal level would be unacceptable.

I get what you are saying, but I respectfully disagree. Can you let me know how you feel this negatively impacts someone's daily business?

Yes, I would definitely be unhappy if someone used my private land, however I have never said I am using someone else's private land.

It is too easy to cast a simple black or white outlook on such things. The reality is this is never really the case and in my eyes it is about being pragmatic and compromising. If the council do not provide adequate means for a resident to charge their on-street vehicle then I do not see an issue with a protected cable running along the pavement for a few hours a few times a week - at a time when there is minimal footfall.

I suspect we'll just agree to disagree on this one as my intentions are certainly not to be selfish, whilst at the same time executing my [currently] only option to charge the future car

It's interesting how you would have a problem with someone regularly placing a minor obstruction on your private land yet you see no problem in you regularly placing a minor obstruction on our public right of way.
Like I said, if you're allowed to do it then everyone would be allowed and that wouldn't be a good thing.
A few hours, a few times a week for years is many thousands of hours of you doing as you please.

If I had to regularly step over a cable on the footpath, I would also do as I please and said cable wouldn't be there for long.

I really like the idea of electric cars but this is just one reason why I just do not get the attraction of the T8, all this just for 20-30 miles of electric power. I just am struggling to see the REAL benefits of a hybrid XC90.

What would be your solution to the problem?

The enormous BIK saving from my previous XC70 D5 feels pretty real from where I'm sat........
