This car needs to go to someone who is truly passionate about the 740 saloon. Other than its age it is quite simply like a new car. The colour combination is ideal. White being the in colour at the moment. The seats including the drivers look like they have never been sat in. When my dad could still drive, he was once pulled by the police (on speck) they were that impressed by the condition of his car, that they asked could they have a look under the bonnet. Then they sent him on his merry way. True story |

The 740 was in as good condition as yours and both had full leather, 4x electric windows, A/C etc. That is the reason I will only buy a GLE with leather these days. Gary

I would say the value is maybe slightly under what you are looking but not loads.
I gave £2K for mine (38k and absolutely as new) which was a good price but I don't regret paying it at all, what other type of car do you get for that sort of money? A 10 year old golf? no thanks. Plenty of people will tell you it's worth £1K but to be honest they won't be in the same condition at that price, there'll be an exceptions to the rule as there always is (relatives selling on behalf of a deceased owner etc) but in general people with a condition 1 car know what they have and won't let it go for the prices they were 5-10 years ago. The only thing is you won't get a very quick sale. |

It is very difficult trying to put a price on something that is not particularly collectable. With some marques, 25+ years would be considered a classic and perhaps the 740 may well become one in years to come, who knows. Also the less of them that survive, their desirability will no doubt increase.
At the end of the day I realise, as so do many of you, it is 28 year old car that just happens to have been cared for and is in exceptional order. How much it is worth is all down to one person! the person that buys it. In today's money £2500 is not much for a car that is in tip top condition both cosmetically and mechanically. But, there's always a but, it has a minority market. I'm in no rush, its not taking up any space, its in a dry garage, it will get driven periodically, serviced, taxed and MoT annually as it has done up to now! one day someone will be the 3rd proud owner. There is a 1967 P1800S on Pistonheads at the minute, now that would be a fantastic classic to own. If I was passionate about Volvos, thats the kind of car I'd be looking to own. |

740
That looks exceptional. Worth that all day long, the problem will be finding somebody who wants it.

Contacted the Haynes Motor Museum last week, thinking they may like an immaculate example of a 1986 740 Volvo saloon to add to their fleet!
Although very polite, their reply was, "unfortunately they wouldn't consider adding a 740 Volvo model to their collection" Thought they would have considered all makes and models in the right condition, I now know different .... mmmm .... never mind! |
