So I bought the dashcam from Amazon link. Arrived next day. Already fitted, looks great! No USB cables hanging around, problems with suction cap melting in the summer, camera falling down, like I have in my other vehicle with generic camera. This one just clicks in place and sits there, like an original part of the car!
Came with 64 GB microSD card. Setup via Fitcamx app (Android) is easy and takes few clicks.
Video quality is not super-crisp, but acceptable. Car regs are readable. In default 4K 30fps setting, it dumps ~130 MiB of data every minute (with audio). It means, with 64 GB card, you have just less than one hour of recording. Video quality can be decreased if you want to cover more hours. But camera saves and locks videos from accident, it has configurable sensitivity setting, so you don't need to worry about important video disappearing.

Video details are:
Resolution: 3840x2160 30 FPS
Codec: MPEG-H Part2/HEVC (H.265)
Audio: a bit muffled but acceptable, Sample rate 32kHz 32-bit, ADTS codec

Few snaps taken today (rainy and very dark day):

Each original frame from the video is 4K, saved as PNG by VLC weights about 6-7 MB, Imgur will compress it so you see compressed images, but still totally fine to read details, in my opinion.

Verdict: Overall, I am very happy with this camera, installation took few minutes, it just works, no messing with cables or anything, and recording is totally acceptable for any insurance reasons.

I checked a few of these, they all require to run the electric cable down to the fusebox. I believe the model mentioned here is just a small cable inserted between the mirror electric and the unit, and does not require cable to the fusebox.

That's right, Fitcamx comes with Y splitter cable, you disconnect original connector from the mirror, plug the splitter in and everything hides inside original car plastic housing. On that Aliexpress link I've seen at least one kit with splitter too, so one could pick up chinese dashcam and make it work too.

No, thats not right mate.

The ones that mention wires to the fuse box are those that have a parking mode, so they need a permanent live to operate that way. Even then, its optional, you dont have to wire it in.

Otherwise, they are exactly the same as the model mentioned here, an inline power supply that fits in the above mirror housing.

Definitely worth looking at Aliexpress for a much better deal at half the price.

I reckon this is a much better deal than the model mentioned here.

Agreed, I've got the 4k version.....way better value and only difference is you have to read a bit more Chinglish to get it working on your phone. But for nearly 30% off, well worth it in my opinion.
