Would be interested to know the outcome of the initial members issue. Was it a fuel guage problem or was it something more sinister. I dont really fancy breaking down on the motorway and having to go through the starved of fuel procedure to restart the car. (I always thought if you see an AA or RAC man putting fuel into a car on the hard shoulder the driver is normally a tube although if faulty guage I will change my mind)

Hope it didn't spoil your first day too much.

Was the gauge showing 1/4 full, as I noticed on pick up that the distance to empty was only 90 miles yet the tank was 1/4 full. When I scrolled through the computer this was obviously because the average MPG was only 14.6, obviously not much of a run during PDI!

I hope you get it sorted OK and enjoy your new car!

I refilled last time with around 130 mile range showing and it took 56 litres so that gives me some confidence that the reading is not too far out. I will let the range drop a bit lower another time and progressively build confidence in it.

I've had the range down to 40 miles and it took 66.5 litres to fill up. I would like to have a audible nooise when the light comes on but never mind. I tend to keep an eye on it.

Now why don't manufacturers think of that.

Default It was me!

Graham,

I had the same thing last October and posted on the forum here.
It was at 1/4 tank and the only reason you find it so quickly is that the stealer only puts a tenner in the tank from new!

It took me 3 visits to fix, it is an issue with either (yes they dont know which fix worked)

a) the saddle bag design of the fuel tank which siphons from one side to the other, the changed my tank! a big job.

b) the fuel pump / sender combination, again changed all fuel senders and the fuel pump

At first the dealer refused to believe there was a fault but having been towed by the AA in a brand new car I wasnt having that. I insisted they kept the car and tried to take it below 1/4tank. One of their techs had the engine cut out on dual carrigeway at speed. They believed me at that point.

Since all the work it has been fine until 4 weeks ago when it refused to start again this seemed fuel related. however afterleaving it standing for 24hrs the XC60 just behaved, nothing on the computer.

This has really knocked my trust in the car and put me right off buying another volvo in future.

If you need any help pls send me a message.

LP

Not good to hear that there is still a issues with your car. The dealer has to take responsibility and not only do a permanent fix but also try and rebuild your trust although from what you've said this could be too little too late.

Interesting that the dealer said not to let it go below 50 miles before refuelling. Must be something going on.
