I tried but it's been raining so hard today it's hard to tell without a good light and better access. However thinking aloud here. If the cooler was split would the hose still swell under load or wouldn't the air escape from the split cooler ?? I do t understand the workings well so forgive me if that's a stupid reply. I make a lot of them ha ba

your right its counter intuitve, mine had about 9 pinholes and was working for 2 years like this.

It gets to a threshold and starts failing.

u only need daylight or a torch to look at the front of the car.

If all sticky black then 95% its the IC

I repaired mine with metal loaded epoxy

it is *normal* but it is also knackered. Squishy hose means it lets air in. For £20 and about an hour's work it's worth doing - though the *reason* it is knackered is because your turbo is leaking oil into it. Really, ideally, get the turbo seals done so there's no more oily contamination.

Mine was shagged. Not so much oil to show as the other guys, but it was *very* bowed - several of the tubes had gone from letterbox shaped to entirely round in the middle of the IC! In some very unusual circumstances the car would perform pretty well, mostly I think while temperatures were low inside the system. Then as the car warms up, so the IC starts to leak... See my thread here entitled "intercooler weekend" for the replacement process and plenty of other opinions and threads on easier ways to do it.

Well I havnt had time yet today to look but when passing the car this morning I can see a rainbow coming from the middle of the front of the car and my Mrs says she has seen this for a while now when it's wet. So I'm guessing that's a good indication my ic is shot

Will see if I can get it repaired or will be on eBay in the new year. Can't front the cost before Christmas but at least it looks like I may have the problem identified.

Thank you to everyone who offered advise will keep you updated when I get chance to check it. I guess it's walking for a few weeks now. Don't you just love cars.

Stop guessing and get cheap diagnostics on it.
If the i/c is blown, you won't achieve or it won't hold boost and diagnostics will show that.
Simple.

Right. Update.

Had diagnostics done and showed over boosting. Turns out the waste hate is sticking. Which apparently means a new turbo. Crazy and expensive.

Thanks for all the help guys
