That's what I was asking, as I've not heard that before... Will have a look into that. Any links?

I think your talking about 2 different engines as well. The T6 is the 3.0L 6 cyl turbo offered on the V/XC70, S80 and XC90 from about 2008 IIRC, there was however a non turbo 3.2L 6 cyl engine mated to a 4? speed GM gearbox.

No links I'm afraid but It's relatively well known considering the age and relative rarity of the T6 P3. The ex-plods which are becoming more available often suffer. Something to do with a spline cast into the casing wearing to a degree where the whole box needs replacing.

shop around, bide your time, get that elusive bargain ! Buy on condition. Id be more concerned about getting a really good car at a sensible price than the exact spec.

Sage advice (I have just done that and ended up with an absolute bargain!)

You should be aware that there are 2 types of 2.0D engine - a 4-cylinder and a 5-cylinder.
IIRC, the 4-cylinder (136bhp) is a PSA unit that can prove unreliable if meticulous attention to servicing has not been adhered to - this is the engine described on page 1 of the thread. The 5-cylinder is the same basic lump as the 2.4 / D5, so very reliable and potent (163BHP generally, originally D3, then re-badged D4, although I believe it has also been de-tuned to 136bhp in the D2 model) - a common view shared on here is that this (163 BHP) is the best compromise between performance and economy, getting very close to the D5 in terms of torque figures yet returning decent mileage at the same time. I have the 163BHP D3 and find it to be a fantastic engine, would definitely get another. Good luck in your search. |

I'm not aware that any of the 5 cylinder 2.0 Litre Volvo engines were ever badged as a '2.0d'. They all came as D3, or later on the D4.

I have a 57 reg (08 MY) 3.2 SE Luxe 6-speed geartronic which I love although fuel consumption is a bit high at average 28mpg and VED at £475. Haven't had any problems at all though, and yes it is a straight six non-turbo.
