I just thought I'd post up my solution, I did see an improvement after changing the filters but this post, below, showed me that you can clean the gas distributor by using STP fuel injector cleaner and it works!
My car is now as smooth on LPG as it is on petrol, I'm very happy and very grateful: "Hi i also have a 2003 bi fuel 140.000 on clock, iv'e done 70.000 in last two years, when i bought the car it had a missfire, so i disconected gas pipe below the filter,a small hiss is heard as the gas in the pipe is relessed,no problem just dont smoke Then i poured half a bottle of STP injector cleaner down the pipe, reconected the pipe, started the engine waited for auto switch over, the car would spplutter and stall, then i leave the car for a few hours to let it desolve the oil deposits. Then when i start it i takes a few seconds to clear, then runs like a dream,i do this process when ever it starts to miss or stall,or every 10.000 milles.I have tried diff types of cleaner and found this one to be best! good look" |

That's just the answer I've been years waiting for. Thank you so much. You don't by any chance have any pictures or film of how you did it. Is it the in line gas filter where you disconnect the pipe you are talking about. If so I know i can't get my fingers down there.

Hi Tom,
It's not difficult, takes about 5 minutes. All you need is a screwdriver, a second pair of hands might be handy to hold the pipe steady - i managed just about! I can get a picture from the vardis software and show you where i put the stp stuff with step by step instructions if that would be any use to you? I am glad this has been useful to you, whichis why i posted it, it would have saved me 6 months of searching and £100 in various spares. |

I've cobbled together a guide on how to do this for TomW, if you'd like a copy please pm your email address to me and I'll send it to you.
I would post it, but it's got screen shots from VARDIS on it, I don't know if that's against the rules? |

Mine's an S80 2002 Bi-Fuel 120k exactly the same misfire/lurching issue which also came with a warning to either slow down or gear up. The car was also switching to petrol Whenever it felt like it. Typically after 10-15 miles or straight after a refill. Solved with new filters same part nos for the S80 as posted by Clan. The smaller filter was a bit trickier as the brass nut faced the bulk head i had to remove the soleniod completely not difficult at all remove the air filter housing 1st helped me to access the shut-off solenoid easier. These filters should be changed at least every 10k according to dealer mechanic. The misfire/lurching remained until i tried the STP cleaner trick which worked like a charm left overnight to dry out now purrs on gas no more kangaroo driving lol. The switching to petrol issue turned out to be the thermostat quick simple cheap and easy to replace. Cars now running like a dream i intend to change the filters every 10k from now on. A big thanks to all contributers on the forums the whole lot cost less than £50 and i'm looking forward to some very comfortable motoring for a long time to come.

I have been reading all the advice on LPG - Thanks to all concerned. I have a V40 1.8 dual fuel, 2002, which has 200k on the clock. I have been getting progressivley less MPG (so to speak) from it, and now get about 170 miles from a full tank (say 35 litres). Does that sound good, bad or indifferent?
I am just abou tto service it again, and have single electrode Champion plugs ready to put in in place of the NGK R BKR6ETUC 3 electrode type currently in it. Can anyone advise where to source the Denso type that many speak highly of? Many thanks all. SteveV40 |
