Volvo is Auto, focus manual, merc manual, spitfire manual, one Dolomite manual and one Auto, BMW manual.
I prefer the Volvos with Autos but prefer some cars as manual depends on where im going/ what type of driving I'm doing. |

Always had manual except for a short time with an auto 940 which my wife hated. However come Monday get my MY16 xc60 geartronic so back to auto. Made sure wife drove it before buying and she loved it.

I am driver.
No machine decides what gear and when for me. I did test drive a geartronic and it failed miserably to impress me, in fact after driving the same route with my manual I knew I could not live with auto. One should not need to change gear in the middle of a bend if one has read the road correctly and even if caught out it is not difficult. Volvo's may not be drivers cars in the sence that they do not rattle your fillings out but they can certainly press on. I am not getting involved in the auto v manual debate except to say I personally cannot envisage a time when one would grace my drive. Paul. |

Have had autos for over a quarter of a century now and neither Mrs. W. nor I would ever consider a manual again. Like 'green van man' however, I will not argue that one is better than the other. At the end of the day, it boils down to personal preference - and that is exactly as it should be.
Regards, John.

I should imagine they put the manual in 1st take their foot off the clutch and it will trundle along behind you. Since mine was remapped it will trundle slightly slower as the idle speed is now 700rpm instead of 800rpm before.

Changed to auto about 6 years ago and don't want to go back to a manual, so much easier as considered1 says, in traffic jams.

It will, but what if you have to stop and start multiple times every minute, as you so frequently do in traffic jams? It is all well and good that it will roll along at a steady speed like an auto, but when you have to constantly engage and disengage the clutch the benefit is lost in my opinion.
