Not necessarily. I know at one time (maybe still) all Vauxhall keys would lock any car, but only the correct key could unlock it.

I got a spare blade key cut from an ebay seller.
It unlocks but wont lock the car.
They sent me another but that was the same.
My original still unlocks and locks the car.

Maybe that whats happened here but the other way round.

Are you using it manually in the lock or using a fob?

It's worth trying to fix this as not being able to get into the car is pretty fundamental. I would suggest having a look at the lock mechanism - it may be missing a pin or a pin is not aligned such that it locks but doesn't unlock, maybe because it's been bodged in the past.

I've been through the flat battery scenario a couple of times in the past few weeks and have learnt a lesson - don't keep the jump leads in the rear of the V70, and keep an old smaller battery at home so you can at least jump the door locks from the under bonnet connections. I managed to start it though last time from a fairly knackered old Kia Rio battery.

Now to work out whether there's a parasitic drain or the 2 year old battery has failed.

Repairing or even just looking at the barrel pins could result in a right pickle :/

Getting the key cut could still have the same issue as the cut will be based on the key(s) i have.

Even buying a brand new key from Volvo could still end up with the same issue, ie, its the lock itself.

How would one determine if its the lock itself or if its both keys?

Sometimes when ive gone back to the car after locking it, the lock indicator (top of door card/pad) is up, even though it is locked, perhaps that as telling us soemthing?

In the old days, locks and keys used to wear when they were in daily use
These days, hardly anyone uses the physical key blade any more in the door, but always in the ignition
So the blade wears but the door lock does not

So look for wear on the original blade compared to the new blade
Sometimes a fine grinding of the blade edges will make it turn easier - I've seen key maker shops do this.
Go visit one with both keys and ask him what he thinks.

I only got it made in case i somehow locked my only fob and blade inside the car. The need to lock the car with it is not required.
