Thanks Iainmd, great advice. I'd better tell them when I put it in.

Iainmd, I rang Viezu tech support to see if there is anything that can be done to avoid the main dealer wiping the map. There isn't! Seems the Volvo main dealer techs don't really know what they are downloading, just plug it in and press go and whoosh. They might not wipe it but there again they might. You can't ask them to be selective about what they download/affect.
And not cheap to have it re-installed by the guy who did it.
Double thanks for the heads up.

Moneysh, here is an article that hopefully provides confidence that a Viezu re-map can help economy.

Tuning specialist Viezu wins Queen’s Award for Enterprise
22/04/2014 in Fleet Industry News

Vehicle tuning specialist Viezu Technologies has won a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of the fuel-saving and emissions-cutting software, BlueOptimize.

Developed in-house by Viezu over two years, BlueOptimize is claimed to be the only vehicle tuning product focused solely on reducing fuel consumption and emissions.
Viezu’s research and development has produced independently verified data showing that BlueOptimize can cut fuel use by 15% and emissions by 20%.

Not entirely sure that's correct advice from Viezu. There's nothing stopping you requesting a Volvo dealer not to run a software update at service time. Updating the car's software is a checkbox on the service sheet and hasn't always been completed on my car. If you request no update the dealer should be able to live with that.

Proghound, not sure if anyone has answered the point you raised about locked ECU. It is correct. I had my 2011 D2 (locked) remapped and to get round that the guy took out the ECU and dealt with it in my lounge. Lot of wires and two laptops. In my car it was low down in front of the N/S wheel. Had to remove the wheel and pull back the plastic arch liner to take it out. No problems, very pleased with the result.

Just adding that mine gets services from the dealer and I have a remap in, and I always request them to not touch the ECU or perform any update which they say is absolutly fine.
