Car still not right. Difficult starting and occasionally running rough or stopping.
He read somewhere that thses symptoms are just what you'd get from a faulty fuel pump, so he boiught one at considerable expense, and had it fitted (not really a DIY job). But it made no difference. Latest theory is it could be the mass airflow (MAF) sensor, or the fuel pump relay. Any suggestions gratefully received! Also heard that some Volvos were assembled by subcontractors who didn't go by some of the rules, so that while the cars run fine (normally), the plug-in diagnostic kit doesn't work. Can anybody confirm? |

Fuel pump will be under dash, quite poss passenger side. Remove stuff over your feet, get a torch an pear right behind glove box. Think it’s white. There’s a recent thread about these over in 240 section, have look, add to knowledge. Has in-tank pump been checked? All filters?

The fuel pump relay is behind the ash tray behind the gear lever, remove that and the plastic trim behind it and you will find the fuseboard with the relays hidden behind them, the relays are quite buried so it will be a squeeze to get it out.

Finally sorted, we think.
Apart from the items mentioned earlier, he replaced the radio suppression relay and got a company to change the fuel pump. No better, after the fuel pump fitted the car stopped on the way home and he had to load it on to a trailer to get it home. We tried various things without success, so he eventually took it back to the same company, and they discovered a split pipe inside the fuel tank, they got some other firm to make a replacement, and it's now been running OK for a couple of weeks. For a while he thought it wasn't a fuel problem, as with the injectors out and triggering them gave a good flow of fuel. Hard to see how the split pipe could have produced the variety of symptoms shown, but there you are! He now has a spare fuel pump. Thanks everybody who contributed on this. |
