bought the car from them. Volvo specialist I go to has spoke to them and they say this is not a common problem. The problem being there are no codes to read that tells anybody what is wrong.

Forced regens at the garage will solve nothing , because your high oil consumption will produce metalic oxide ASH instead of soot
Ash cant be burned Find your oilburning cause (turbo or engine) and then revitalise your dpf as follows: Do a forced regen (or after a regular one) to burn the soot so that the ash can be removed without the soot blocking Take off the dpf hang it topside down With the end in a plastick bag and vibrate it with a machine and shock it with a rubber hammer ash will fall out like sand Then take a vacuumdustbag and t-rap it on the end end pressure blow some more ash out You cant get exactly all ash out but quit a lot will do the trick to preventing buying a new one |

This sounds like the same problem I am having again with my D5. I have previously had DPF problems with this car (see old thread) and looks like we are heading that way again. Over the last few weeks it has been using more oil and the mpg has dropped about 3-4mpg. Rather like last time I know something is wrong and it is like waiting for the axe to fall. No codes present. Drive it hard and it goes well but it feels like it has lost power but mainly between 1-2k rpm. Doesn't seem as happy as before tootling about at low revs. Engine has gone noticeably more noisy/rough at times. Sounds like tappets gone rattly aswell. However when oil is changed engine sounds sweeter for a while and oil consumption is better!! I change it every 7-8000 with proper a5/b5 oil etc. Always seems like it destroys the oil quickly to me! Personally I think this time the engine is knackered and not long for this world. I am not complaining as it has done 340,000 miles now (252,000ish when had DPF probs before). I think the DPF system has caused problems with oil dilution and subsequent engine wear!! Such a shame as the car has been brilliant and I will be sad to see it go!! I am going to have to replace it sooner than planned by looks of it so have been chasing Volvo for a demo in a new V70 with the D4 181 engine. Just hoping it will keep going until new V70 sorted!! Fingers crossed!!

Ive said it numerous times that 0w30 a5/b5 oil is bad for the engine with enormous fueldillution but some of the volvocrowd are religious to volvo recommendations even when volvo wasnt aware of fueldillition in the first place
Take something thicker oil with low ash and de-ash your dpf Also hook up a torque-app with the throttle and egr valve displayed when the egr valve closes and the throtle closes more than 2/3 than you can see when a regeneration occurs and how long If that happens to much you get way more fueldillution than is good for the engine Also if the dpf is de-ashed and regenerations happens to often than try a injectior cleaner also do a leaktest to point out suspicious injectors who produce too much soot wich causes too much regenerations |

Simon has put a new sensor into the DPF but the issue remains, if i even slightly push the car at all the soot alarm comes on. (My push, i mean the slightest little acceleration beyond what an OAP on a sunday drive would do). Have been topping up with oil now for months but there is no oil under the car where it is normally parked. Have done numerous regenerations but makes no diff. Simon last week took the filter our and throughly cleaned it and left some cleaning fluid in it over night, then done hot power hose etc on it and still exact same issue. Strangely, I went to Dublin from Belfast with the car and back about a month ago and there was no prob, on the motorway doing 80mph no issue. But next journey around town and back to square one. I have spent so much on it now and drove around like a twit at 20 mph in totally inappropriate places that i am really ****ed off with the car. I just want it sorted once and for all. Have been quoted £450 to have the DPF taken out and car re-programmed and it is tempting. Or £650 plus fitting for the DFP change. From what i have read here it looks like there is an issue further back with the car that is causing it to creating the material that is blocking the DPF, so would be really interested to hear from people with similar issues and what happened for them. Cheers. Eunan in Belfast. |

I would try the following simple normal procedures: 1/ Liqui Moly diesel purge in the fuel filter every time it's changed (Cleans the gum and varnish) 2/ Use expensive Diesel or a suitable fuel additive (LM, Lubriguard or BG) 3/ Run half a can of Liqui Moly/amsoil/Castrol Classic idle flush just before the oil & filter change (Takes 10 minutes at idle) 4/ Use the correct Castrol Edge engine oil AND change it every 5K miles (Leave the Volvo oil filter until 10K miles). 5/ Once all that has been done (It's just routine severe service schedule), go for a Sunday morning motorway session of at least one hour, OR fast main road with the RPM at max continuous (4K in 4th gear??) for 30 minutes. 6/ Get some motorway or Italian tune up time in every month. 7/ Fit a new DPF if you get another warning for it. 8/ If the oil consumption is an issue it's time for compression and HG checks (If the coolant is also going down). 9/ Any oil drips, try using Valvoline Maxlife 10/40 in summer, or a can of LM stop leak plus Ceratec. 10/ Irish Fish & Chips from a coastal town.

Well my V70 is certainly struggling. Got the codes read and exactly as before the lambda sensor has died. Ordered a new one from Volvo to be here for tomorrow. Hoping that will sort the problem. Oil and fuel consumption have been getting worse so we will have to wait and see now. Presumably we should then have the car back regenerating! Fingers crossed! Don't want to have to replace the DPF again! The swirl flaps have broken aswell now so more to fix! All good fun!

Hi did you ever get to the problem with it burning oil as mine is the same . Had the turbo changed and this reduced the oil consumption to about half a litre every 250 miles
Any information would be greatly appreciated |
