Cruise control
Don't bother about the loose connectors you have found, they are for the cruise control option.
Did you check fuse no. 4? Rob |

The button of the switch remains in contact with the brake pedal all the time (i.e. the switch is off) until the pedal is applied when the button of the switch is not held in and and current flows to the stop lights as the pedal moves downward. To adjust the switch without disconnecting it wedge the brake pedal in the depressed position. Hold the switch in position in the bracket and push the the wire plug in. The white section is the auto adjustment and will be pushed outwards. Make sure it is fully out (in this position it also releases the plastic tabs that hold the switch in position should you need to remove the switch). Now, still holding the switch gently release the brake pedal. You will hear a clicking sound as the auto adjust both fix the switch in position and sets the switch button against the brake pedal. The wire plug end of the switch moves backwards towards you during this process. If the switch is not faulty ... job done. Bob Last edited by bob12; Jan 7th, 2021 at 20:36. |

I'm convinced replacing the brake bulbs on a 940 is the most difficult mechanical job on these cars. I can replace front brake discs and pads faster than it takes me to replace a bulb. Having to sneak my claw through the frame to get at that holder, and then trying to align the keys with the hole, and then inevitably the metal tabs will be corroded or bent too far back so it has to come out again, back round to the car, fire up the engine to start cos the relay/light is always on at ignition.
If it goes again i'm getting the garage to do it lol |

Why do you need to fire up the engine to make the brake lights work? They're wired to work without the ignition.

So just to see the timing I set the stopwatch on my phone and from start to finish to change the bulb was 2mins and 2 sec I also tested that it was working within that time limit. Let me know when you are free to change my discs and pads as getting them done under 2 minutes is bloody impressive :teeth_smil e:

Look through that little square "window" in the bracket and not the witness mark on the brake pedal arm. That's where the switch lives, the pedal operates it at the top of the stroke to open the brake light contacts - as the pedal is pushed down away from that window, the brake light switch plunger is allowed to move out of the switch under spring pressure closing the brake light switch contacts.
