I've got Hancooks all round on mine now, may 8K on the front's & only 700mls on the back but they seem to grip well in pretty much everything the winters thrown at me (Ice,Sleet,Snow & Rain this week).

Nice & quiet on the motorway as well

I recently fitted a couple of Mattador tyres on my V70 P2. They were recommended by my main dealers and for once a main dealer is right.

They are owned by Continental like Barum is but with a big difference - they use the same compounds as Continentals and from what I've heard this new one called MP46 Hectorra 2's use the old ContiSport Contact 2 compound.

They are also getting really good write ups. Mine are 225/45 17 91Y which often isn't available in the budgets as they just go for 94XL's to save on costs of offering various loadings. These have bedded in excellent and handle well both in pouring rain, slimy surfaces and the dry (when we have some) and my chap matched Camskill on tyre price and charge me small amount to fit. £74 each corner!!!!

I have Hankook Icebear winter tyres and they're very good

Initially I thought 'oh no, a tyre thread' but looking around for a good budget/mid-price tyre I am absolutely confused by the choice out there. It's simple with my motorbike - despite the range of manufacturers there are only 2 or 3 tyres worth considering!

I'm very interested in hearing what people are fitting as in the budget/mid-sector the choice is overwhelming and there's no doubt a few good 'uns out there and a lot of sh*te. Also the difference between budget, mid-price and 'lower premium' in price terms is getting quite blurred. TBH I want longevity not outright grip but I also don't want something that will be like slicks on a skid-pan!

Even my old favourite Barum Bravuris seems to be only a few quid short of the cheaper premium range.

Just been doing a bit of digging around on the internet - as said these get good reviews and would be my next choice as an alternative to the Barums.

I bought a couple of budget Westlakes for the front of my S60 from Tyre Shopper two months ago, can’t fault them, plenty of grip and the weather hasn’t even warmed up yet.

WESTLAKE SV308 XL 225/45WR17 £57.50 each.

Agreed!

Just bought 4 for my Alhambra, superb tyres, very quiet too.

They're now on special offer for a bargain £55.25 a corner inc. free £7.50 puncture/damage insurance.

See - http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk/search/225-45-r17/W/94

2 going on the S60 fronts on Weds.

I find that Mumbai Ditchfinders (only sustainable timber used) provide the best entertainment

Hi,

Just saw this thread so it seemed better than posting my own question.

I've been looking for cheaper tyres too. I do trust the likes of goodyear etc, but I don't drive on particularly tough conditions so I think some budget options are certainly worth experimenting with.

Did anyone else get any happy results with Infinity? Or is the difference that noticable?
