Hi,
If you up your wheel size to 17" then to compensate you can cut your tyrewall size down to 45 or 40. Called tyre equivalence... Remember that a reduced tyrewall will give a firmer or more harsh ride quality. Have look at this convertion chart: Linky.... Des. . .

Am running standard shocks and just a set of lowering springs which isn't ideal but makes a vast improvement to handling altho it is a little bouncy due to softer shocks,
Best setup would be a full kit springs and shocks unless your loaded and want coilovers but there a little to hard for everyday use, If your cars a phase 2 then 215/45/17's tyres will be fine, but if its a phase 1 then they may rub on front of rear archs abit to much so you might need 215/40/17's or 205/45/17's instead, i wouldn't recommend 205/40/17's unless you buy either very stong wheels or are good at avoiding pot holes,

I'm running 35 series rubber and have no probs with em getting damaged by pot holes, even drove around 2 mile on a completely flat front without a mark!!!!
Yes it is necessary to lower the car unless you don't mind it not looking the best it can!!!! It's a travisty when people put nice big rims on then don't lower em!!! I to like Rooster have just the springs and standard shocks, found the car to handle very well, although you'll probably need a strut brace!!! |

"Rules to follow :-
The speedometer must not read below the actual speed. When travelling at 25 to 75 mph, the speedometer can read up to 10% more than the actual speed" If 17 inch are to replace 16 inch, then the circumference will be greater on the 17 inch. Every revolution of the wheels will be covering a greater distance than the 16 inch at the same engine revolutions, therefore your speed will be greater than what is shown on the speedometer as you will be covering a greater distance in the same time scale, or the same distance in a shorter time scale. One requires then to have the speedo' recalibrated. Regards Malky |

Not if you get lower profile tyres, my 18's on 35 series rubber have the same rolling radius as the 15's that were fitted by volvo!

Rooster,
Can you expand on this: Quote:
As such was looking at replacing mine with these (when i can afford some). You say 215/40/17 would be ok (the tyre wall difference is just 4 mm), does it really make that much difference?? Cheers, Marcus,. |
