In the meantime, hit the report button () if you see some spam. I am also recommending Speedy Cables to people, when they ask. I'm considering holding stock of the various cables needed for 300s. Thoughts? cheers James

Hello James ,
There are only two basic 300 speedo cables up to 1982 ( smiths speedo ) and 1981 on ( VDO Speedo ) so might be worth having a couple of each made up . The life of the cable is about 10 - 15 years not too bad :-)

I make 1984 the change-over year (i.e. the very last B19 cars had VDO instruments)
I have a spare of each, but they're used. I'm also thinking about throttle cables...I'm getting a lot of requests for those. cheers James

You are right , the change over from Mk 1 to Mk 2 took about 3 model year changes , there were hybrids with new body style and old interior the 1984 models had troublesome "multi-function switch" problems . This was an electronic device plugged into the back of the instrument panel to control the fuel and temp gauges and their warning lights . That was SMITHS .. memory must have faded but coming back now ...

I've got a 1985 360 GLT with VDO gauges but a B19E engine, whereas I thought up until a year or two ago that the Smiths instruments went out at the same time as the B19E.
It might seem to be heading rapidly into rivet counting, but there's a vaguely useful point to it - I once bought a set of 'extra' gauges (i.e. econ and ambient temp) from a (late) Smiths set, and was understandably grumpy when they didn't fit my VDO cluster... cheers James
