Daft mot advisory
My S40 passed the mot test yesterday and the tester commented that the car was in pristine condition for it's age. Nice comment but an advisory was issued
saying " vehicle underside wet at time of test " Of course it was, we have had a week of snow here. Daft or what?

is it possible he commented that incase you were trying to hide something by washing it away, like leaking fluids? |

It does make one wonder what the rules are governing advisories - or are they purely down to the Tester's discretion?
Some can be helpful, but as you already knew that the underside was wet, I agree with you - what was the point of recording the fact? Regards. John.

Presumably it gives them an out if a problem is found later on? When I returned my last lease car the person checking simply wrote rain/ wet on the form, he didn't bother looking it over. I asked why and he said the rain can hide dents, scratches, paint issues. I presume it is a light and refraction thing.

Advisories are at the testers discretion as is the rest of the MOT - all down to his interpretation of the rules.
I took 'er indoors Mini Cooper for its test a few weeks ago and the three mile journey to the test station was in torrential rain. The tester put his cagoule on when he was underneath as there was so much water dripping off. No advisory, the only comment made was from me to him commenting on the fact it was not very nice working under a wet car. The same chappie has been testing my cars for the last twenty years and I know he has a fetish about flexible brake hoses and ball joint rubber boots, so I always double check all of those before the test.

Basically he was covering his back[and who can blame him?]in case any fluid leaks are discovered in the near future which could have been present when the test was done and may have led to a failure as opposed to a pass.

What utter tosh..... Take it back when it’s dry and ask him to change the advisory to Too Dry instead.
