It didn't cross my mind - I will ask him tomorrow but I suspect the answer will be no. I know the the indy doesn't have Vida but he does have very good diagnostics machine for most vehicles. He's actually and Alfa specialist but extremely good with all makes. Last time I was in -he was working on a Bentley Continental GT.

You don't need Vida to check boost as pretty much any obd2 reader can read the MAP sensor.
Any garage that only fixes the symptom but doesn't verify the fix, isn't a garage worth its name in my opinion and I'm really hoping they haven't just put the pipe back on and sent you on your way.

Question

When the garage tested your peak boost, what was it?

How much the peak boost should be and what rpm it should be tested please?
Thank you.

Unfortunately Vida isn't clear although I haven't dug especially deep as it's not information I've needed.
For the D5244T and T4 on the P2 S60, I found in Haynes that max MAP is 30.3 psi so just under 16psi boost at sea level.

Maybe the XC90 is allowed more and the data will be out there so maybe Haynes will clarify.

I'm annoyed since I've spent approx £700 on servicing a few months ago hoping to keep the xc90 in good nick, then get hit with this problem.

Goes back to that recent thread about buying a lower or higher mileage vehicle. I've had loads of low and high mileage vehicles. So far it's the higher mileage vehicles that are in the lead but only by a whisker
Yep it is used cars period! Always expect to pay out a couple of grand extra on repairs.

Overboost will find the weakest point and if you have overboost and if it continues, your now secure (and cheaply fixed) pipe could move the weak point to something more expensive like the intercooler.

When the garage tested your peak boost, what was it?
I'm assuming/hoping they've checked.....

Sorry for the late update. I only got the XC90 back yesterday. All i got out of indy was that he tested it and the turbo pressure was fine. had the issue of the handbrake referred to in other thread. Been busy with work (tax season).

To top it off, as I was leaving he said I need a new steering rack, pump and reservoir. Even thou I've not noticed any issues with the steering and has the rack refurbished two years ago.

I think im gona book it in at WF PYE & Son In Brum - heard alot of good thing about them.

What symptoms are you having with your steering rack ? (I'm thinking I may a little issue, minor tho)

I wouldn't be happy with this guy.

He fixes your turbo pipe, can't be bothered to check the boost pressure, but oh, by the way, I have had a look at your steering rack - pump and reservoir an you need new ones ?

How very convenient.

Ive had a look today

All I can see is fluid that has covered the lower part of the reservoir and possibly seeping from the return pipe (I think) back to the reservoir.

I've had no squeaks from the steering wheel (still very light to turn) and no significant fluid loss to my knowledge for the last 2 years since the rack was re-furbished.

Clean off all the steering fluid leaks (WD40 and a rag works well) and monitor for where it is leaking from over the next few days.

You may find the leak is minor
And you'll see where it is coming from

I have a very minor weeping on my pump and one high pressure hose join, and apart from cleaning every 2 months or so, no other work is required

My return pipe recently chafed through, although in a different area to yours, got a genuine new Volvo one for £15 delivered from Ebay, 20 mins to fit it..
