Saner,
Interesting posting from you on this topic. Do you have any "Before and After" figures you could share, so one can understand the type of power and performance differences one could expect. |

Afraid not on real-word before and after, but here are some figures for comparison (All figures measured at the flywheel):
Volvo B16B Service Manual: 85bhp/5500rpm - 86.8lb.ft/3500rpm Judson Advertised Figures: 124bhp/5500rpm My Rebuilt Engine w/ Judson: 112bhp/5500rpm - 101.5lb.ft/3500rpm What is nice is that is sticks around the 100lb.ft all through the rev range. Still have some tuning to do and will update when it is all properly dialed in. Last edited by Saner; May 16th, 2016 at 14:03. |

The chances are that the original Judson figures were optimistic in the first place! Far from unusual at the time. E.g. a Morris Minor 1098 has a claimed 48bhp, but someone I know put a fully reconditioned unit with all ancillaries on the Froude dynamometer in his test cell & it had only 39.5 bhp.
Btw, when you say measured at the flywheel, was that a rolling road guesstimate of the flywheel figures for your engine, or actual flywheel figures on an engine dyno? If the former, then that could also explain part of the difference.

I mentioned flywheel to make that distinction, was on an engine dyno.
Agreed, Judsons figures would have been optimistic, and I wasn't expecting them. It's also worth noting that with my B16, I'm having to consider an eltric water pump to keep temperatures down, and a fuel pump upgrade to satisfy the top end when accelerating. |

When you consider the cost to build a performance B20 and what you end up with then a supercharger upgrade is certainly attractive.

Personally I think I would choose a performance B20 over a Period Judson. Only reason I kept the B16 was due to its rarity. If I had the later Amazon with the wider transmission tunnel I'd whack in tuned B20 with Overdrive.

A modern supercharger would be interesting though.

Would require figuring out where to mount it but the MINI Supercharger is cheap and reliable.
