yeah that's about the same. Makes an awful lot more smoke on the longer start ups as well.

Hi, guys, just to update you, I think my problem with the hard to start may be due to the fuel line to the High pressure pump loosing pressure when the engine is switched off, so i bought a 1 way valve and fitted it at the outlet of the tank pump, thinking this was best as itwould hold the whole line full of fuel, but it made no difference, i have a sneaking suspicion though that its loosing the pressure somewhere so i disconnected the inlet pipe to the HP pump and the fuel only tricled out, so i fitted a length of hose about a foot long, then the oneway valve and then the original piping and it seems to have helped it, though i will leave it to stand until tomorrow morning then i will know for sure, if it cures the problem then i imagine i must have an air leak somewherre further back probably the fuel filter housing id guess. Just for anyone who may be having the same problem, if this fixes it ill be chuffed cause the valve cost about a tenner haha

Default Poor starting first time in day - then OK later V70 diesel

How did you get on?
I am having similar problems - its not glow plug or anything like that. Just first time in the day I start it needs quite a few turn overs - once fired up seems OK for the rest of the day. So think perhaps there is a slow leak letting the fuel run back - although when I pull the pipes off I have a vacum pressure sucking.
I have been hunting for a hole in fuel pipe hose - think I am going to change all piping and do the fuel filter. One way valve seems interesting...

well, for the first few days there definately seemed to be an improvement, not completely perfect but pretty close, however this morning it was hard to start again, but i was thinking afterwards, the idea of the one way valve was the fuel near the pump would be kept there under a small pressure which would enable it to start easily (if this is the problem) but if the air leak is behind i wonder when the fuel pump starts up and pumps the fuel up the line which may have air in it does that mean the fuel on the pressure side of the one way valve then looses its residual pressure? It has never yet refused to start but i fear that someday when im about 100 mile from home it will and ill be none too happy about it lol
