I have owned and driven 240's for over 25 years - my present 240GL was an ex demonstrator bought in 1989. Now done 180k, very little goes wrong given routine maintenance. Get a good bodied one and waxoyl & cavity inject it. Before you buy get someone to check it over for you as they can rot in unusual places. You should be able to get a good one for around £500, more if you crave a GLT. As has been said easy to self maintain, I get an independent motor engineer to do any heavy/difficult jobs these days. I use my 240 as an everyday workhorse and have a 1996 Jaguar XJ6 for high days and holidays - good car but I don't think I'll ever not own a 240!
Good luck
Phil
