Thanks useful thread 👍,

I might go with Halfords one, as worried about buying £80 odd quid on 4 litres of Volvo fluid, and it turns out to be the pump ? Then I guess will have to drain all that away and refill again ?

plus one on you having the wrong fluid in it possibly tqf or similar, drain as much as you can with a vacuum device before replacing with the correct fluid.it might be worth checking that you have the correct power steering pump fitted for your car.

Thanks will do 👍, I have a stack of paperwork/ history for the car with things being done every year inc service and the usual replacement parts brakes etc, but no mention of any power steering changes. Pump or fluid ?

I believe that’s the Ford spec, but it’s the same stuff as CHF or the Volvo stuff.

So just taken a sample with a syringe , I would say it's a healthy orangy colour , ( maybe a different type ? )

Also tried reving in neutral , and the steering got noticibly lighter at higher revs ,
So what would this indicate ?
PS previous owner serviced car every year , currently on 137000,
Thank you 👍
possible pump wear, the dealer has full test gear to measure the pressure in the system and test the pump which should be around 120 Bar pressure, if that is ok could be the valve in the rack , an oil change to the correct fluid may help.
