Skyship you know **** all about my car.

Firstly, My car had headgasket failure twice on a completely stock engine. Once at 142k miles and again at 148k miles because I suspect it wasn't repaired correctly or the problem was far greater than headgasket to beging with....plus I decided to drive it 100 miles to Santa pod on 3 cylinders then thrash it up the 1/4 mile having deemed it was already game over for that engine and I wasnt going to ruin a weekend away since I was already on my way there when it turned sour.

Secondly, if you read my posts youd know the JT exhaust, k&n filter and "fiddled with map" are all new additons to my car fitted in the last week along with a new engine. None of these parts have adorned my previous engine or ever been on my car before and they are not a cause of my previous two headgasket failures.

As your signature says. Do your own research beforehand.

Now the surviving T4's are mostly high mileage and getting tired but there is still the odd gem out there.

I have a 2003 V40 T4 which I've owned for 7 years now. Its had the dreaded headgasket failure twice but I've just in another engine that hopefully will be OK. If its not then Ill yank that out and fit my 2nd spare engine I have which is known to be perfect from a 74k mile car.

Modification wise its got a 23mm rear ARB, H&R lowering springs, 17x7 Compomotive MO5 wheels, Mitsubishi Evo 3 front brakes, front & rear strutbraces, K&N panel air filter, 3" JT Tuning turbo back exhaust with Sports cat, KL Racing intercooler and apparently the engine was rebuilt by Tim Williams but I cant confirm that because I haven't opened it up to look.

Its still a work in progress after I finished the engine swap last night but I also have a remapped ECU to go in it which Im hoping I have all the right bits for the swap. Ill throw that in this weekend and find out. if it doesnt work then ill just chop the ECU out and wire in a standalone management system like megasquirt etc and get it custom mapped.
Informative, thanks! I'm actually looking at a 2003 v40 t4 myself, although I do want a s40, this appears to be completely unmolested and the price is a hell of a bargain if it's as straight as he says. A few questions... your turbo back, how much was it? I'm assuming it may be custom made? Same with the inter cooler, did one need to be fabricated?
Also, do you write your maps?

Personally i prefer the 'Versatile' 40 over the 'Sedan/Saloon' 40 there is something cool about a swift estate. Plus i needed it to cart crap about in

Good looking car! I get what you mean, there is something about a quick estate, especially a Volvo one! The more I think about it, the more it grows on me.

Exhaust and intercooler are both off the shelf items. Exhaust from JT tuning. Intercooler from KL Racing.

I didn't pay for either of them. They came on a crash damaged T4 I broke for spares.

I just check EBay to see how many T4's I could find. Only one is for sale with a seized engine.

I'm glad I've spent the money I have on reviving mine, as it looks like these great cars are a dying breed in RHD markets.

My rear ARB is also an Evo one from Whiteline. You would need the strengthened brackets too though because the Volvo ones are like kitkat wrapping and they snap off incredibly easy with a 23mm rear bar.
It's another nice thing about the T4 that some performance brake and suspension parts fit from the early Evos. The crappy part is that Evos are even rarer than T4s where I live :/

I buy straight from Japan. Parts are a lot cheaper but the postage can be a bi expensive sometimes. I paid £20 for my Cusco rear brace and £35 for a brand new pair of Cusco quick release brackets.

Youd be looking at £55 here alone for the brackets.
