You'll be getting a pipe, flat cap, slippers and a bag of Werthers soon if you're not careful!

He is a good MoT tester though - very thorough but he doesn't make up faults to get work either.

I was considering asking him to change the radiator on my 850R as it is leaking and I have limited time these days, but I think I'd rather park it up and do it when I can than trust it to him now.

As many of you have said, I do as much work as I can as I haven't trusted anyone to do a proper job - apart from Mark... Oh well, it looks like wifey will have to wait for some of the house jobs to be done!

On the positive side, I've brought the 940 to work today - its the first drive I've had in it since bringing it back from London last June!!! Thankfully it was a faultless, uneventful drive Super comfy, very smooth, great brakes, light to drive, but the engine is still flat so I'll need to look into that - but it may be just that it feels slow after the chipped 850R

You will find the 940 LPT a tad slow compared to your 850 tbh . I've been using my 740 B200F for commuting recently and that is slooooow. It is incredibly comfortable though but that auto box and N/A makes it slower than a week in Bar L !!

It may be worth checking the ignition components - leads, distributor cap and rotor arm. Any problems there and the car will still run but not as well as it should.

Assuming everything is up together, IMHO this car cries out to be upgraded to HPT. Transplant the wastegate actuator from an HPT. Maybe also the dash to get a speedo reading in MPH and the Turbo gauge in the RPM counter. That just needs a vacuum hose routed from the inlet manifold to the dash through one of the existing holes in the bulkhead.

Perhaps it's a really old school garage and they don't have an impact wrench. Certainly possible to scratch any part of the wing if you're wearing a watch or those studs catch on the side of jeans etc.

I've heard a few people recommending switching to an HPT actuator. New ones are NLA and second hand ones tend to be attached to Turbos so nigh on impossible to find just the actuator

Its already in the pipeline...

I bought a scrap B200FT turbo 'for reconditioning' last year - paid almost pennies for it IIRC. It came with the actuator, which runs at a higher boost that the B230FT. The approximate actuator pressures are

B230FK 4.5psi
B230FT 7.4psi
B200FT 8psi

So I'm guessing that the B200FT actuator should produce around 170bhp, maybe 180? Its on the list of parts to be fitted when I get the time. I also have the B230FT style combined tacho/boost gauge to fit - I plan on doing that when I replace the 2 blown instrument bulbs... I know the boost gauge isn't that accurate, but it is a useful 'monitor' to keep an eye on - if you know the normal reading, anything abnormal stands out.

Forrest - I've replaced all the HT side barring the rotor arm and distributor cap. As the car has only done 66k miles I thought they should be ok? But yes, I will check/replace them in due course, thanks.

Laird Scooby - Werthers... you've got my mouth watering now

I've done a couple of trips to the office in the 940 now - 25 miles each way, and it has performed admirably. So this weekend it was promoted to wedding car duty A big risk, but it was only to transport my family to a venue, not the bride/groom!

A 40 mile trip there and a couple of miles knocking about then the 40 miles back home. Fortunately, the car behaved impeccably and the journey was so smooooth I had my 80 year old Mum in the car and she was freezing after the ceremony, so I put the heated seat on for her and whacked up the heater - I'm delighted to say that the 940 heater is as good as I remember it - you could make toast with that

I'm also delighted to say that the car is rock solid - no squeaks, rattles or groans from anywhere. The more I drive this car the more I love it.

These trips have helped me identify the cause of the lack of performance - its not the boost or anything like that, its far more basic - the accelerator cable is really tight making the accelerator pedal quite heavy. If you really boot it, the car has some get up and go, so nothing to worry about there fortunately. I've had a quick look in the garage, and the amazing spares boxes include a RHD 940 auto accelerator cable So I'll fit that when I do the throttle body and IAC cleaning jobs... Luckily I have a few holidays booked for the end of May, so I'm going to be a bit busy then!

I'm hoping to get the Omega wheels dropped off soon so that they can be refurbished. Disappointingly the refurbishing place don't do any 'wet painting' (in their words) so they can't spray paint the wheels the original OEM silver 930 colour. I'm hoping they will have something close enough to OEM so that the new caps will match OK...

I don't suppose anyone has a single spare Omega that they'd sell to me - I have four but I'd like the spare to match, so I'd like them all to be refurbished/painted at the same time. Thanks

Snapped up a pair of NOS genuine Volvo rear mudflaps yesterday - they're nigh on impossible to find for a saloon. I have a pair for an estate if anyone is interested - I can confirm they definitely don't fit a saloon!

Managed to grab a few hours to work on the 940 yesterday, so I replaced the driver's window switch with a backlit one to match the other switches - luckily I had a spare switch pack that came with some black door cards I bought last year. Checked it first to make sure it worked correctly and lit up ok - all good!

I then attacked the bulbs that illuminate the various switches on the dash - sunroof, fogs, headlamp switch etc. These are the soldered on 'grain of wheat' type bulb, so replacement wasn't as quick as I'd hoped. What a pain lol. I only had some smaller bulbs to hand, so I've fitted them for now, but will probably fit LED bulbs eventually - they are a bit dim at the moment.

I then turned my attention to the front passenger door speaker which hasn't worked since I got the car. Those spare door cards provided the replacement speaker which I drilled the rivets out of and took to the car in readiness... I needn't have bothered. When I removed the speaker cover on the door I noticed that the speaker had been replaced already - no rivets, and the speaker had been screwed in place. That got me curious... I unscrewed the speaker to find the wires disconnected and hanging loose in the door cavity! I plugged them back in and tested the speaker - it worked ???!!! Another half completed job on this car - I'm finding quite a few Needless to say the radio sounds much better now!

So the upside is that it saved me drilling out the old speaker and taking the door card off, and I still have a spare. I need to take the other speakers off the spare door cards and get them boxed up - to stop them from getting damaged when I move things about in the garage. Those black doorcards will eventually go in the loft, or I might sell them as they're in really good nick.

Anyway, I finished the day off by giving the car a thoroughly deserved wash - it was looking a bit grubby as its the daily driver now. I haven't checked the mileage, but its gone through 3 or 4 tankful's of fuel now, so maybe 200 miles? Seriously, I reckon its done 500+ miles already. I have a satellite MPH speedo stuck on the dash for now as the instrumentation is all metric. I'm still pondering over fitting a UK market cluster to make life easier - that magic spares box has an instrument cluster from a B230FT with the tacho boost gauge which I might fit in the summer.

The only issue I've noticed now that it is in daily use, is that the ride is perhaps too soft. Its actually very wallowy, much like a '70s American car and the handling on country roads is 'interesting' I reckon the dampers are past their best, so I may end up doing a suspension refresh as well this summer (including the camber mod). I need to save up to get some iPd anti-roll bars which I 'll fit at the same time - that should tidy things up no end
