Fuel filter replaced no difference.

Maf played with, made more smoke, but increased low down power obviously.

Finally manned up and decatted it.

Yup, that made the difference! Boosts like mad, would spike to we'll over 20psi if you treated it hard enough. Below 2000rpmtotally transformed it, enough to get,1st and 2nd wheel spin on dry tarmac when the boost comes in hard at 2200rpm. Upper revs range is also much improved.

Mpg up and rough idle almost gone.

Reason? About 40-50% of 1st element in the cat were clogged with tar like substance (veg oil could have done this?) the remaining cells were fairly choked down their length.

See pics....

Brickman............for your attention

Other thing thats happening is vacuum pump is not doing so good, its not making any noises. Coasting up a stop most times now the engine is running lumpy as hell, no brake assistance and trying to stall. Wondering if the vac pump has given up the ghost or the pin that sits between the pump and the camshaft is bent/ worn (was OK after a clean 3 months ago).

Give your vacuum pipe a wiggle (next to the pump) with the engine running and with your other hand feel for a leak...the pipe on mine had hardened and developed a split..only noticeable at low revs and no brakes !!!
Reckon that higher revs close it up. Cut mine back and refitted....sorted....

Hope this helps

Good result! Really need to do that on mine... Having issues lately where it occasionally suddenly cuts out on full throttle, as if it has run out of fuel.
Seems to be worse at night, and in cold weather strangely.

Also is very flat off boost.... and has zero smoke at all times!
Replaced the fuel filter recently with no effect, and I've also ran bio diesel most of the year.
Hopefully a de-cat will sort it!

Decat and full 2.5" system resulted in massive improvements to mine there!
Much quicker and more economical now!

That looks like the contents of a bbq, was your cat the original? Makes me wonder how much crap must be in mine, it pumped a lot of smoke out the day i bought it, also has a light on due to the egr valve being full of crap which being a 2000 model i cant block off so need to clean. The car has almost 220k on it and no receipt for a replaced cat and i know it did a lot of short school runs (his daughter kindly engraved her name in the door card). Would removing the inside of the cat cause any warning lights on a 2000 model? (im guessing not) Im thinking of smashing out the insides then putting the empty case back on once ive moted it in February.

Interesting!

Also how do the likes of Dirty Torque actually map these engines?
Is it tricking the fuel temp sensor or similar, or a full on ECU remap?
