Alan Bracken in St Helens good independant garage specialises in volvos.
this used to happen were I used to work, told to spend 5 minutes on the car if the faults not present, then parked in the corner of the garage for an hour then assigned to another profit making job ie servicing.

this happened very often and the customer goes away thinking his car has had a thorough check and there's no charge !

Smile Bells in Bedford - Great Volvo dealer

These guys were very helpful I was buying an S60 and wanted to get their opinion on it (this wasnt a car they were selling), i was very pleasantly surprised by how helpful they were and i was able to talk to the technician and see what he was checking.. so i would add them to your list of "good" volvo garages.. they were also happy to explain in detail some of the things that can sometimes go on the S60, their number is 01234 360666 Jenna or Paul www.bellsmotorgroup.co.uk I think they are still privately owned and not part of a big Plc culture which might explain the much better than expected service. Their workshops are very well equipped and the technician i spoke to had many years experience on volvos..

Hi, I'm new here, great forum. I'm in the process of buying a 2007 07 S60 2.4D and would like to know of anybody's experience with Mill Volvo in Newcastle.
Also if anyone out there knows of a good independent for servicing in the Newcastle upon Tyne area I would be very grateful for any help. Cheers.

I have not dealt with Mill for many years, I did make the mistake of going there once but the experience was somewhat less than satisfactory.
I started using Clelands in Galashiels instead which is much further from here than Newcastle (55 miles instead of 35) but the extra distance is worth it.
There is a garage in Shiremoor called Autofix, I have never dealt with them but have heard that they are ok.

Thanks for the advice. I've seen Autofix's webpage and they are only 3 miles from me so I'll give them a try. Thanks once again.

Not sure if its on the list, but Drayton Motors in Wirral (independent specialist) have been good for me.
The spent ages with my troublesome V50 earlier this year and due to recurring faults it was swapped for an S60 D5 SE at no further charge to myself. Cant argue with that can I?!?!!

Johnsons of Gloucester = reasonable prices, Great parts department (know me by my first name) go out of their way to be helpful, very nice service advisor lady! Take good care of your car.

Certainly not my experience of Johnsons, Gloucester (formally Tollbar, Page & Davies) - overpriced, bad workmanship, etc.

Twice I obtained compensation from Volvo for poor service.

I have nothing but praise for them after they replaced my intercooler.

Prices are competitive, car came back clean and shiney inside and out, they didn't adjust my seat (sad I know but a pet hate of mine!), they didnt play with the radio, they didnt look through the glove box etc....

Nothing was too much trouble and it was ready exactly when they said it would be.

Grant on the service desk is a top chap.

Recommended.

I have used Lipscomb and its predecessor garages for fifteen years - top customer service - responsive to queries and requests for help at short notice. Pleasing to find this level of customer service. I like Volvo cars and Lipscomb's customer service makes the package.

Thumbs up Lipscomb canterbury- used 2006 to date.

My Local dealer-
1992 240 Torslanda serviced there to 2008 despite its age- very good value, superb service.
Selected Used 2000 V70 from Harratts, Leeds in bought Sept 2008- wide of the mark as supplied (warranty didn't cover what needed correcting....surprise, surprise), Lipscombs liaised to get redress. Superb service.

Selected used 2005 V70 from Riverside, Doncaster, bought 7/9/10. Looks good so far. Sales helpful, not pushy. Good price, free delivery and cherished plate transfer. Will be serviced by "Lippos"; no hesitation. Service Dept. there particularly good.

They do a discount for cars over 4 years old- "Plus 4"- makes using a main dealer same kind of cost as a non-franchised garage, no catch.
If you're in/near Kent, take your Volvo there (I don't work there, by the way!).

Not my experience of Slaters, whilst on a site visit to north Wales, my drivers wiper linkage snapped, as per Welsh weather it was snowing quite bad..... Stumbled across slaters, who fed me coffee and pastries, whilst temporally fixing the problem and ordering the parts to be delivered to my local dealer for fitting the next day. No charge and they spent at least 40 mins trying different fixes to get me back on the road. Car was not under warranty either.
