Could you tell me more about the emap pipe, ie what/where is it and what does it do?
I have the same symptoms.

Not sure TBH - but car seems so much more responsive and smoother at low speeds. Immediate and very noticeable change.

Part number 31431101. Looks like this (if the link works)

Never heard of it before today. Will have a search on the net and a read up over the next few days. Sorry I can't help more ATM.

Pipe is £77
Labour to replace is £110.
There is also a bolt they may need to replace at £25. They were going to replace mine but said it was OK in the end so just the pipe replaced.

Price inc vat £225. If you need the bolt replacing as well it's £250

OK cheers. I'll mention it to my dealer and see what they say about mine.

My worry now is how long until I suffer the EGR problem. If the EMAP pipe is sooted up, then it is reasonable to assume the car is producing more soot than it should. Given the issues with the EGR cooler sooting up I feel it is only a matter of time before my cooler blocks up.

Vovlo informed me yesterday that my car is no longer under warranty, although they said that it is running fine and this emap pipe was the only thing they could find wrong with the car, including the EGR system.

If it needs replacing, ask to keep the old one. Not that you don't trust them, but it will allow you to clean it out at your leisure. That way you will have a spare if it ever blocks again.

I had the EMAP pipe replaced about a year ago, had the same issues with hesitation at low revs then engine management light came on. My car had already had 3 EGR fixes including the final(?) definitive one. I was told by the service manager that the EMAP issue was nothing to do with the previous EGR problems, although in retrospect I probably should have pushed for a Volvo contribution to the EMAP replacement which was outside warranty as the pipe being blocked with soot may have been related to my previous EGR problems.

You may be able to clear it out by soaking in caustic soda (sodium hydroxide), although not if any of that pipework is aluminium alloy, which would also be dissolved.

The Exhaust Pressure sensor pipe is stainless steel about 8 inches long , it is 6mm outside diameter with a 3mm hole through the centre . it has 4 x 90 degree bends so you cant poke anything through it to clear soot .
Any soot blockage will be at the bottom near the manifold where the banjo bolt is as gas does not flow through it , it just there for the sensor on the end to measure the pressure ., There is no need at all for a new banjo bolt as it is easy to clean out . Blockage is quite rare so an isolated fault really .

So sounds like a perfect candidate for cleaning out the soot using caustic soda, by just dipping the banjo fitting and lower half of the part into the solution.
