Smile Service and MOT pass

Treated Winnie, my V40 T4, to a "genuine" service at the local dealers (Ray Chapmans York - where they know me very well). Although I normally do all my own servicing and work, I do like my cars checked over at least once by Volvo after I have bought them, and despite having this one nearly two years now I had not yet had this done. So, having been working very hard the last three months, I decided to bite the bullet...

All done - overall feedback was that car is in extremely good health and condition.

Also had them do the dreaded MOT - she needed a new OSF flexible brake hose to pass the MOT - otherwise no issues, advisories, nothing.

So, a touch poorer this evening but overall well-pleased (especially since a lot of driving looms over the next two weeks).

Nothing, I hardly touch it these days.
I now work in Uxbridge and take the train to work, so my mileage is going to plummet, which is good.

Heard a colleague complaining about his car drinking oil so I borrowed the keys and went to have a look at it. His mechanic had guessed either a leak or bad piston rings but that didnt gel for me as it had a perfectly clean underbody and didnt smoke

7yr old BMW 320i (petrol) convertible. 60,000 miles. Pulled the dipstick and it was covered in mustard-like foamy emulsion. So was the underside of the oil filler. So was the top of the radiator.

Mate, I said, this is probably going to hurt....

Winter tyres back on, cleaned up the summer rims which are now in worse condition that my winter rims!

Then re-routed the usb and aux line in from the Grom unit to the glove box rather than being under the radio and always in the way.

Last job was to try and insulate the washer bottle a bit more through the hole the front right indicator goes in. Previous years I start with working screen wash then wind chill seems to freeze the bugger up, not the jets as I don't get water in the engine bay. Hoping its done the trick!

Thumbs up

Covered the boot struts with black heat shrink (borrowed from my work) and improved their appearance ten fold.

They were a little bit rusty, but not too bad. Not as good as the originals were, but needed these for the extra weight of the boot spoiler.

Look much better now.
