I'm looking forward to summer diesel too.
Not long had my D5 and currently running it on Shell V-Power Diesel - both of my previous cars have been quieter, smoother and more economical on it compared to regular Diesel so am assuming it's the same with the D5. Cheers for the Fuelly tip! |

The last 3 tanks in jan and feb were all over 49 mpg as measured at the pump, so I am hoping to see an improvement now that's it's warmer. |

I have an XC60 D4 VEA which now has 9000+ miles on and have noticed an improvement in mpg since I got it in December. Originally struggled to get above 43, now on longer journeys will get 50+mpg. Have seen 60 mpg on the trip computer, mainly motorway, but in evening traffic so a lot of sitting at 50/60mph. Was quite impressed with that though!!
Mind you, urban driving does kill the economy, down to the 40 mpg region, 38mpg when the right foot is heavier than normal. Last edited by alrobbo; Mar 23rd, 2015 at 23:37. |

I was experiencing the same sort of stats as yours only mine have started going south. Would love to get 43 now as I did get this without trying but struggling for 40 now........and almost 14K on the clock.

What's surprised me about my V60 D4's economy is how consistent it has been.
Worst tankful has been 44.8mpg, and the best 54mpg. Doesn't take much extra-urban driving for the mpg figure to creep up. |

Both S60 and V60 D4 quoted in the Metro today as being miles off claimed mpg. Interesting oddity was that the V60 beat the S60 in TrueMPG... 49.8 vs 49.9.

I'd say that urban driving "normally" (eg, NOT loaded up with 16 crates of books!) ought to get around 35. Longer journey's obviously better - I've seen 49 on one particularly "Driving Miss Daisy" M1 roadwork-inspired 100 miles, but generally low 40's. Of course, once your right foot takes you above 80'ish (on private roads, obviously!), then it drops down below 40 again.

Higher cruising speeds really knock down the mpg - even dropping from 75 to 70 has a noticeable effect
