so we have a 13 page thread with many success stories and great advice (I took the advice, did the job and was successfull) and someone decides to call someone an idiot and a moron for offering help
some people just seem to want to start an argument if you don't agree with the guy then argue the point in a structured way name calling is so childish

Hey guys,
I opened my abs unit from a bmw e39 its a bosch 5.7. I cut around half inch from the top and opened it. The problem is that my unit looks different from all yours. I will upload pictures. In the first picture on the top there are some connections between the board and the other black coupling with either silver wire and very small and barely visible stranded wire. On the bottom there are other small connections between the board and the golden connectors there. I think this unit might not be as easy to repair. Anyone had this unit repaired? Thank you Pic 1 Pic 2 Pic 3 Pic 4 Pic 5 Pic uploader didn't work here! |

He clearly knows more than you will ever know and can repair a ABS unit.. As plenty of people from many countries and many Volvo sites have effected safe and decent repairs of their units shows, to me more about your, a electronics engineers ham-fisted attempts at repair than it does reflect on Ozark Lee, a respected moderator and Volvo'er.... Cheers Jod

Thanks JOD,
I was not trying to stir up a hornets nest. I just happened to see the thread and thought that my pictures might help some others. I guess that will teach me not to post on the other side of the pond. And I thought the thugs at Volvospeed were a tough crowd. By the way, I also have a BSEE from the University of Missouri. I'm not looking to pull out a tape measure or anything but we can compare honer societies if anyone would like to go there. My repairs on the modules - 2 thus far on the two '96s that I bought with failed modules - have not failed again after 2 years since I fixed them and I don't think they ever will. My observation is that the problem with the modules was in production since they tried to flow solder the circuit board with the solid pins that act as a giant heat sink. The solder never flowed properly in the first place. ...Lee

Help!
Hi guys....
I have just had my ABS Module reapired from Jim at Volvotech. Put it in the car a little while ago. The ABS and TRACS lights are still both on. Took the car up to 20mph as suggested on the forum but no joy...lights are still on. Any suggestions please? |

Sorry to be so ignorant, but is this a fix for when the ABS light comes on? The ABS light is on and my local garage quoted me over £200 (cant remember the excact figure), for a refurbished pump. Will soldering the cirquit board sort out the ABS light? A couple of times when I have pressed the breaks, there has been a metalic clunk and the pedal stopped early. I just released and repressed the pedal and the breaks where normal.
Is this likely to fix the problem? Or is it likely that there is a more serious fault on my ABS pump? Thanks

I have been told that the car should go through a diagnostics check again and the engine management light reset. This process has to be completed on some cars.
The fault codes I was getting related to a front abs wheel sensor . Symptoms are abs and tracs lights coming on intermittently, engine management light on permanantly, speedo going to zero from time to time, cruise control not always operating, and often a clicking noise before the abs and tracs lights come on. Through reading this forum and getting advice, these problems are symptomatic of an abs ecu problem and as a result, I have had this repaired as in my earlier post. |

If you have the correct signal going into the ECU from the left front sensor then it would indicate that the particular pin for that sensor signal may need re soldering to the board inside the ABS control unit , assuming the sensor is working ok ...
