Just had an interesting email from the guy who is the 7/9 register keeper on here, will try and work with him to get some idea of how many were produced and sold on the UK market, and the colours.

Hi SE,
Well PIRATE is running nicely, having been through a period of neglect, the dealer I bought it from said it was hired out by a guy in Norwich who hires out cheap cars...or I should say....cars cheaply...sorry. I changed the oil on Saturday, having picked up a bag of parts from Inchcape volvo on Friday, so up on the ramps, and whilst the oil was draining attended to the other jobs using the Volvo goody bag. Trim clips to hold on flapping rubber on drivers door...bugger...they had given me the wrong clips... Moving swiftly on to second job...Dizzy cap and rotor arm....a bitch of a job as we all know, once the old cap and arm was off, lets pop on the new......Rotor arm was totally different? three allen bolts etc?? what the hell? Phone better half in Norwich to rush to GSF who I tried first, they dont list a dizzy cap just a rotor arm so I went to Volvo. Anyway, she grabbed the rotor arm...but by the time she got back I found the cap was totally and utterly different too...boy was I a happy bunny, my Ammo and other sports were now blocked in and I had to put old cap back on!!! Anyway, at least one mans service is faultless, Jim's cleaned injectors arrived before 9.00, and were fitted by 9.30. lovely and smooth now. I fixed the cigarette lighter, same as my silver Sports, and the interior light, popped to the garage to steam clean the disgusting block and engine bay and went out to price a job this evening...a nice 50 mile round trip. Water pump has a slight (very slight) weep when cold from the seal which mates to the block, so better sort that and the cambelt. Next stop....16T or 18T turbo, 531 head once removed from the 740 turbo, chuck in the IPD cam and finish of with a garnish of Freds chips perhaps? Damn I love these Sports Editions. J |

Are you still in need of a cap/rotor? I have a Bosch example of each, brand new & boxed, which I'm not going to use now...and was about to list for sale!
cheers James

Hi FJ,
Yes that would be good. Mac (mollusc) was telling me on Sunday at the OC meet that you are the man to talk to with regard to tweaking up the 940's. He also reckons Volvo have given me rotor arm for a 264??, god knows what the Dizzy cap fits, along with totally wrong trim clips they seemed to have excelled themselves. J |

Well a 940 is a very unusual car, you dont see many on the roads nowadays. Perhaps that confused them?

Hi Tim,
Just what I was thinking....my anglo saxon langauge outburst at the time was not very forgiving...Lol. As you well know, whilst the Dizzy cap removal (and re-fitting) isn't the most challenging car job out there....it's a PITA, so to have to put the old one back makes me sick...no one likes doing a job twice. At least I got the cleaned injectors in yesterday morning and we got the hub off the Ammo too....the usual puller....long bar and big hammer....now going outside to have a go at the other side. J |

I have just taken delivery of my 940 sport.
Thanks to Chris Moyles for delivering it in person - you know who you are. Hope you got home safe and sound and enjoyed the Saab 9000! |
