My car doesnt run smoothly on anything but v-power, tbh its all about driving style, with petrols at least. currently on 29.1mpg but thats driving carefully, one hard run and my average mpg drops loads

My car is 97 r-plate 2.0 petrol s40 with 98k on the clock, i am currently getting between 24 and 25mpg on lots of short stop start journeys with shell fuelsave unleaded, i have heard v-power is meant to help the engine but not sure if it will be of any use to me based on the journeys i make with the car.

What kind of journeys do you normally do in your car.

I think it wont make much difference to yours, on the t4 its advised you run 98ron plus. In my old car MG and Rover I didnt notice any difference when running higher RON fuel. So always used the cheapest supermarke stuff

SO I thought id update this thread.

For the past two weeks i have been getting 30.2MPG thats on my daily 35mile commute, that includes 10miles on a 60mph road and 5miles thorugh town. Been changing gear before 2000RPM most of the time with the occasional blast but hardly ever floring it for more than 2secs. So I am getting close to boook figures by driving at the same speed as most people on the road.

HOwever the other day i got my mates in the car and my average droped by .3MPG by driving bit faster.

Thought id point out the car is well taken care of except for my FPR which I will repace at some point when I have some spare cash.

Also think it shows that no matter what engine you have you can achieve book figures.

Bit of info for those worried about running costs on a t4 with fuel prices atm

I've had our V40 for a little while now, 2002 1.8 petrol, and I'm really quite impressed with the MPG (we changed from a 1.6l Mk4 VW Golf).

Both my wife & I drive carefully, never much more than 70mph (it's illegal, isn't it!?) and on a mixture of local and longer journeys. The trip computer is reading an average of almost 40mpg, if it's reset before a long journey it'll go up to 45/46mpg.

Wish the T4 would do the same!
