You caught the idea of my thoughts Alan, something a bit unusual.

I should be able to bring the whole project in for about £7,000.

Do they do a slightly larger size Alan? That's roughly 18' x 16' which might sound big enough but if that is the external footprint, the inside is going to be smaller - quite a bit smaller if you choose to line and insulate the walls (which would be a very good idea IMHO) and that would encroach on your working/parking area.

Thanks Dave. The company has a good selection of garages and workshops, including larger sizes as you say. I'll come up with a plan when I get the keys (31 Jan); my idea at the moment is to put the new garage where the large garden shed is now (re-locate the shed further back), still leaving room for a 5'6" wide gate between it and the existing garage so I can get my motorcycle trailer into the back garden (for security and convenience). I have not measured it, but I don't think the 19'6" wide version will give me room to do that, but the 16'6" one might.

A bit like this (apologies for the poor perspective - sketching isn't my strong suit):

I'm just thinking aloud at the moment - this is all subject to a survey.

I'm more excited about the thought of acquiring 2-3 more garages (and the subsequent cars/bikes/etc) than I am about the house.

I’ve lost track of your workshop project Steve - how is it coming along?

It looks impressive, Alan, and I have no wish to rain on your parade, but isn't there a size limit for the need of planning permission? Knowing you, you will almost certainly have checked this out already. I think the rules have been relaxed recently, but something the size of a small bungalow in your garden might just be pushing the envelope a little!

On the other hand, you could always add a loft and make a nice games room over the garage. Now there's a thought for you ...

Regards, John.

You’re now making me feel a tad sheepish Alan, as many months ago you had predicted the project getting side tracked by other things.

As you may recall the deal with t’other half was to do a load of jobs on the house in order to secure grudging acceptance of Margo.

Sorted barge board, but whilst up on the scaffolding at the apex, I could clearly see a chimney pot had come loose 😡. Probably a £10 material cost to repair for sand/cement but £1400 for scaffolding around the chimney🙄🙄

Progress so far is that oil tank relocated, ducting with meter tails in for power supply when needed to be connected.

Now I am only working odd days, it will fee me up to crack on the workshop in the new year, so much excitement as I can’t wait to get round to kitting it out and getting Margo home👍👍

Cheers
Steve

Permitted development rights mean I won’t need any planning permission at the rear of the house John.

Looking at that pic Alan, i'd be inclined to put the new garage/worhsop further towards the back and leave the existing shed next to the gates that appear to be large enough to drive through?
If the brochure pic you showed earlier is available with the barn doors on the left rather than the right of the building, it would give straight access through the gates straight into the workshop.

One of the factors in my suggestion is that i've moved a few old sheds in my time - it's never been pretty!

Often the sheds in question haven't gone back as they should because of poor wood condition or it's not been possible to rebuild them after moving.
