OK I've voted now

339.7 miles this weekend
39.52 litres = 8.69 gallons

EQUALS 39.09 mpg!!!

That was trying a little bit harder but without going mad. (I'm still driving in my shoes, for example.) And not charmed journeys either - got stuck in slow moving stuff much more than I normally like to. So I have my eye firmly on the 40mpg target.

I must get myself one of those cars.

Out of interest how does it compare with your V40?

I reckon he towed the 740 ticking over on a trailer behind his V40 Ha ha,,,
Regards Brian.

What octane fuel do you use by the way?
I use the higher grade stuff which does actually give me more MPG.I know as I made a point of trying it before with 95RON and then with 97RON.No peformance noticed but just maybe it runs easier on it.

Regards Brian.

It would be nice to think so. But this was my usual weekend-dad pair of trips to N. London and back. The 340 miles is mostly M40 and M25, with about 80 miles of A road and 20 of city work. My motorway rule is an indicated 75mph (which equates to a sat nav 70mph, which I assume is more accurate) with the boys in the car (since it is unfair to waste their time for the sake of my mpg obsession). On the legs when I am alone and on my own time I'm allowed to reduce it to 62mph (and I can bear to do so when there is Aus v Eng one-day cricket on the radio - indeed what better way of spending time is there than idling along listening to Aggers and Jim Maxwell?).

Thus the car is treated to the blissful clear air of these parts only at the very beginning and the end - and on this occasion not at all because the local roads are clogged with Cornbury Festival scum er I mean by happy young people having a good time in the countryside as they are of course perfectly entitled to do.

Very much contrary to expectations, it is giving the V40 a bit of a run for its money. My best similar journeys in the V40 come out at about 44mpg.

Standard 95RON. I've got the red filler cap and I've read things here that suggest it might be happier on 98. I shall have to try it one day.

Voted more than 35mpg.

945SE Auto.
B230FD w. Pulsair

It does more than 35mpg on the autoroute (36 maybe...), and around 27mpg pootling around town etc. on 95RON. It seems to get a bit more on 98RON which I think is only a few cents more per litre so I stick a tank of 98 in every 3 or 4 fills.

My first motorway run in the 940, down to Wales. Stood still in traffic at Bristol, Cardiff and Swansea. The rest of the time I averaged 80mph plus a lot of the time. My tank averaged out at 26.4, I was pretty chuffed, I imagine I'd get 30mpg at a steady 2500 revs or slightly less. Its a low mileage regularly Volvo serviced 2.3lpt. I'm beginning to love this machine as much as my diesel, I call it my silent stealth machine!
