You mean the moderators specifically agreed to allow me to be targeted for abuse because I was asking uncomfortable questions? lol. Keep digging.

In my own opinion I think it has been shown where we can get impatial information, and good service, and where we can't. I'm very glad it is now public for us all to see.

The nesceary proof (plenty of it) has been shown.

I wonder if this is significant. http://www.vpcuk.org/forums/member.php?u=74

I don't however see that dragging on the mud slinging is now nescesary.

BTW: That accidentily published thread was a real gem!
Thanks BB.

This thread will be a great reference for future users to see what goes on. and I for one will be pointing them in this directon, from whatever forum I'm contributing to.

Thanks all, And especially Bob IC and the VOC.

I've contributed all I can to this thread, So I'll crawl back under my stone.

Till the next one

Cheers.

Joules.

The regular Forum policy was followed, actually. The guy giving the abuse was warned as per policy, and the thread was left to stand for transparency reasons. You can try and twist this into more than it is if you like, I'm done with it for now.

looks to me as that. They opened it so you could get blasted but no way for you to reply in any reasonable way. Tsk.. the more they do it, the more foolish, childish they seem to be. Do any tv stations make a program like rogue traders but for the automotive side of things.

cheers

Yeah.. I don't want to click any of the links to the VPCUK site. I get some banter about no rights to view etc. Maybe its just to colect IP addresses or something. THanks but there is enough here to tell me all I need to know.

Cheers all.

ps: THis thread should become a sticky for all to access easily. Great for doing research and obtaining the full picture.

Do we know any more about that lean dyno pull on the RICA custom map yet? I'm genuinely interested to hear more about that...and get an answer to the question of whether or not it's true that some Volvos leave the factory like that.

To be fair, barging in on a for sale thread is pretty much out of order. I'd expect you to get a reprimand for that whichever forum you're on, especially since you were specifically fishing for trouble.

We now have moderating powers on three prominant Volvo forums in this household...and believe me, some of the discussions which go on behind the scenes on most forums would not make for good public viewing. I think you should take that into consideration when assessing the *tone* of that accidentally posted moderation thread. When you've got someone intentionally causing trouble (whatever the rights the wrongs), you're forcing a moderator to take time out of their day to cast what must be the very most fair and considered judgements. That's a lot harder than simply saying "screw you, you're banned"...which is probably why many moderators resort to these tactics, rather than trying to appear impartial and please everyone - it's pretty much impossible. It makes it all the more admirable when moderators DO take the time to at least attempt to be fair.

As for the politics of the situation.....it's all rather pathetic, sadly. I don't even really know where it comes from, although it does appear to relate to commercial interests, for whatever reason.

Unless something is going on behind closed doors which I don't know about (which I think is highly unlikely, to put it mildly), the commercially orientated link between Don / Kalmar Union and the VOC which has been suggested over and over again by Justin simply doesn't exist. I have no idea how we get that point over to Justin. I think there are enough independent and technically able people on this forum to be able to take Don to task, were he to do something out of line. The simple truth is that at least on technical issues, he tends to stay out of trouble.

I'd like to consider myself to be typical of the attitudes on this site. I'll enjoy a vigorous debate with anyone who I feel is not talking sense. Apart from a response to a solitary post from Stuart Williams, that has pretty much exclusively been Matt/Bobcat, and the VT guys. Notice that those two parties are effectively competitors. I absolutely promise you that I have no bias - anyone who I feel is talking out of their backside is fair game. I would be genuinely insulted by a suggestion that I'm affiliated with Don / Kalmar Union, or that I'm protecting his interests.

The fact that Ross has been attacked is very sad, I feel. He has no affiliation that I know of....and he's a clever, articulate, and clued up chap. He doesn't even own a Volvo, as far as I'm aware - he's here to help his better half with her car! They've done themselves a dis-service in threatening another truly independent voice. I can fully understand the motivation for ignoring (potentially disgruntled) former customers, but when people like Ross are making comments about a particular supplier, that supplier should sit back and realise they're doing something wrong, if they have any sense.

Having said all of this, looking at the quality of some of the posts in these threads, is there any point in even having the debate? If all some contributors can muster is badly spelled, appallingly punctuated schoolyard drivel, I think their argument is already lost...and attempts to engage these people will simply be met with abuse. I've pretty much given up posting on local "cruise" forums for this very reason. Some people are best left to their ignorance.

cheers

I agree with most of what you said but don't agree on the point above. I think if someone knows something about a car, then its their right to put down in the thread what they know and let the seller explain. If i was buying that car, I would want to know everything about it. Everything needs to be honest, clear and correct.

Wasn't there a thread once about a vauxhall car that the seller claimed had no accident but then someone tried to disprove it with pics. That caused the forum world to read and visit but till the very end, the seller did not want to post the V5 to disprove the accusations. I for one thank the person for highlighting and if I was planning to buy, I would certainly stay away from 'sweet 16'.

So for me, I commend anyone that has the guts to stand up and share info that sometimes gets swept under a carpet IMHO.

cheers

ps: once its on a forum, than its open to any comment really. Otherwise better not advertise in a forum.
