That way, one has the full range of available bulbs to choose from.

BTW, did fitting them make any difference to your insurance premium?
The 55W kit is the one to go for as its the same output as our current H7's.

And regarding Insurance my policy didn't change as I chose not to notify them of a "non legal" modification.

Making up my own set in effect

From HIDS4U:

Ballast *2

Power lead *2

D2S/R Bulb Connectors *2

From e-bay:

D2S - H7 Adapter *2

Many suppliers of these (just search "H7 D2S Adapter")

I don't think I've missed anything.

Just that doing it this way allows the full choice of various OEM and upgrade proper D2R bulbs (or D2S in projectors) rather than the limited supply of ready rebased bulbs which seem a bit cheap (reliability?). No other reason.

The main issue to check with this though is how easy it is to properly secure the adapter to the bulb and whether it is properly secure in the headlamp.

Few questions on this then.

Will it work with 55w ballast?

Why use h7 ballast not a d2s one?

What's the benefit of d2s bulbs over h7 ones?

A bit off the current topic but They're working again?

I swapped around and it seems to be okay. I think I need to check the connectors properly as it may be something that's loose? Not sure?

Anyway, fine for now. (fingers crossed)

N.B. On another note - I bought some LED foggy's and just tried to fir them. Too wide to get through the gap. Gonna have to make the hole wider to make them fit! Dooh!

Made up for you Jaygee!

I Did find my cheaper set had lots of issues around stability, they were very tempremental any knock or bump and they would flicker, stangely they would also flicker after sharp breaking, thats the main reason I ditched them for the 55w set off hids4u, I can't be having to deal with these regular issues when the nights are drawing in and the weather deteriorating. Since I installed the new set over a week ago i've drove with them on all the time to check reliability and so far i've not had a single issue, they just work!

I'll have to wait till next pay day before I can afford to get the other kit. Curious....the kit that you have, did you have to drill a 25mm hole in the back cover for the leads and did it come with a rubber seal for wires to go through?

I wonder if scooby has had any problems with his, he says he hasn't?

Jay,

The kit i bought that did have that option yes, I bypassed that by making a small nick in one corner of the plastic housing (light Side not cover)

Well the way I saw it was, the rubber thing is probably quite good at keeping moisture out and I can always buy a back cover from a breakers yard.

p.s. You got those pics of the grill yet?
