Video taken of the car running and uploaded to YouTube. Might be me thinking it, but it defiantly sounds better. https://youtube.com/shorts/8NkBa0Xu2MM?feature=share |

Definitely sounds smoother, have you driven it yet and if so, does it feel more responsive?

Finally bit of good news. The old girl has passed the MOT and will be put into daily use ASAP.
Plenty of little jobs that need to be addressed but the main thing is she is road legal and starting venturing out. Plus it means I can stick my Mini in the garage and get that fixed up ready for sale. Thanks for all the help over the past few months. Very much appreciated |

Any idea what the emissions are now? Was it livelier as you drove to/from the test station?

That's pretty good on the emissions! Room for a little improvement but not much to be fair, considering the engine.
I'd be tempted to get the Carlube ATF-U out, 0.5L in the sump and a couple of eggcup fulls in the tank. Then every oil/filter change, after refitting the sump plug, first 0.5L of ATF-U followed by 10W40 up to the level, once a year 2 eggcup fulls in the tank should keep the engine sweet and clean and the various parts doing what they're meant to and the bit in the tank will keep the fuel system clean and lubricated. Plenty of time to do that now anyway!

Since the MOT managed a few local trips, but today took the old girl for a longer drive. Had the tracking done this morning, but it needs to go back as it pulls slightly to the left. Also there is some vibration at motorway speeds so will get them to check the wheel balancing.
Got back and noticed two issues to check on: 1. Start the car and it idles sub 1k rpm, but once up to temp and start in traffic in park it clicks up to 1100-1200k rpm. Any particular reason for this? 2. Coolant leaking inside and outside the car. Inside it’s the heater control valve, but I have the parts for that. Outside it’s dripping from the pipe which connects to the expansion tank. Going to replace that pipe, but not clear which one I need. Checked PFV and they only have top or bottom hoses. I think I need top hose but unclear https://www.partsforvolvosonline.com...oducts_id=3950 Last edited by Challo; Jul 9th, 2021 at 14:13. |
