General: C70 Buying advice - any tips?

Yes because I love convertibles, my first one was when I was 17, a 1937 Morris 8 Tourer. And yes because I never tired of the roof’s action.

But No, because of its unreliability, I just learned not to trust it, which was a pity, because even at 10 years old there wasn’t a mark on it, I’d even managed to keep the cream leather interior looking good, with regular ‘soft’ cleaning.

And no again, because it became less practical, I’m 74, and if we wanted to take friends out, we had to take Mrs B’s ‘sensible’ car. And being retired, it was mostly short trips, which exacerbated the DPF etc problems.

I now have a 4-door 1.4 ltr turbo petrol DSG automatic, unfortunately not a vert, not even a sun roof, but I still have the JZR three wheeler for the ‘wind in what’s left of my hair’ experience!!

power shift problems are nothing to do with oil changes its the clutches that judder stick and bang into gear it all depends how the car has been driven that causes these faults

i guess it shows that buying a good one and looking after it will pay dividends if you want a C70.

I hope mine is sound and I'm trying to look after it without going crazy.

The weather looks better this week so top down and get a return on my investment!

Could someone advise, I’m looking at MOT records for a lot of the cars that are further away and a lot seem to fail every year on small stuff like number plate lights, position lights and headlamps.

This one is a good case,

Looked a nice car until you dig through the history and it doesn’t seem to have been cared for. Are the light failures a Volvo thing?

they can be number plate lights fail with rust diped head lights fail because they are always on position lights are quite difficult to access so dont get replaced until mot time non of these things would stop me buying. use them as a reason to chip the price..

To be fair, a lot of non-car people never notice their bulbs have gone until MOT time. Just have a look at what drives around. I'm surrounded by members of the cyclops club. At one point I was beginning to wonder if VW T5.1 vans only came with a mono DRL....

My Passat failed an MOT on number plate lights at just 5 years old. After 15 years VW still earth the tailgate lights near the rear wiper/washer with the inevitable corrosion. We got a completely new tailgate out of it! Gues the rear ones might be similar.

I thought I may have overpaid for mine but it's starting to look like a bargain!

I gave it a good wash today and I almost kissed it!

I was looking at SC430s a year or 4 ago and their values were on the floor. Ultimately I didn't buy one (no rear room for daughter, but great in all other respects - others views may differ...) but all of a sudden their prices started to move, and they not far doubled in 18 months. Similar seems to be happening here.

Had an IS250 for a while and liked it a lot. Nearly bought an ISC until a friends car had to be scrapped because of gearbox and roof issues. SC430 very nice but as you say no rear leg room and the fuel economy on a run was shocking.

Never got more than 27mpg on the 2.5 in them. Round town was worse.
