I just wanted to chime in to say that I am really enjoying the pics and updates on your lovely 940. I usually lurk in the other parts of the forum, as I sadly haven't owned a 900 series yet, but I am loving these updates. Best for now, Joe.

Pretty sure that blue alternator wire is stiff on mine too. I'll have to see if it gets hot.

As UK stocks of the Blaupunkt DAB radio seem to be dropping fast, I've just bought one. Its the Blaupunkt Skagen 400 DAB.

I thought it fitting that it has a Danish model name

Its a top spec single DIN DAB radio, and has bluetooth and a built in mic - my last Blaupunkt DAB had a built in mic and it was so good that I never bothered with an external one, so I'm hoping this one will follow that exemplary performance.

https://blaupunkt.com/product/skagen-400-dab

Nice and discrete with no flashing lights

Very nice and very Volvo-esque! It will certainly suit the 7/9xx models and has a good spec on it too.

The stereos i've been using recently are JVC branded, essentially "budget pack" Kenwood units but wihtout losing the quality, just the price. They have an external mic for handsfree use but i can see the attraction of a built-in microphone.

I like the look of the Bremen which to me is more period correct

Thats certainly a superb head unit, but I think it looks too 1980s tbh. Looks perfect in a late 80s BMW 320i though

The Skagen is more minimalist and suits the 940's austere interior IMHO.

One mans meat as they say I'm pretty sure some of the Audi's and BMW's that I had in the late 80's and early 90's had that Bremen style head unit in them which is probably why I am drawn to that one.

I had a 93 320i but I can't remember the head unit in that. I would say the 93 BMW interior felt way more modern than my 96 940 though

My 1990 Audi 100 deffo had a Bremen in it

The Bremen and Frankfurt look great, but they're also twice the price of the Skagen too!

As I think I said on another recent thread, I opted for the Bremen SQR 46 DAB in my Mk2 Scirocco. It was a good choice for this replacing a badly-installed modern head unit without the hassle and limitations of trying to find a working genuine period unit.

I hadn't realised they'd brought out some more retro units and I really like the look of the Frankfurt RCM 82 DAB. So far I have stuck to Volvo OEM units in my 90s Volvo fleet but I'd be seriously tempted to try one of these.
